My husband and I stayed in cabin 9 (were supposed to be in cabin 4 but was changed up when we arrived - repairs needed we were told??). Kitchen very poorly outfitted. Could use decent silverware, cooking/baking bowls and a stove with oven that worked. Found that the shower was terrible - barely had water pressure coming through it. I think a brisk rainstorm could have produced more. The cabin could’ve been cleaner overall. On check-in the manager was rather rude at first but warmed up a bit after we said we had been two years earlier. I would definitely NOT recommend a cabin here - a trappers outpost cabin is probably better outfitted. Would’ve stayed in a villa as we had the last time but they refused as we had our well-mannered dog along. He wouldn’t have bothered anything in the villa by the way. We were told by a local that the place has had four different owners over the years - hmmmm?? Anyway, fishing was okay and did bring some home. Weather was not the best with the windy conditions and chilly.

Room Tip: Don’t rent a cabin here for sure. Villa was nice two years ago but now????

This is a great place to use as a base to explore the area. In addition to the charter boats for fishing, enjoying recreation at nearby state parks, a visit to the Northwest Angle, you can relax and watch the beautiful Rainy River flow by, observe waterfowl, and see Canada from the comfort of your lodging. There are comfy, clean cabins, well appointed villas, and lodge rooms. The bar offers good food and friendly service, the dining room offers good views of the docks, and the rooftop bar has fantastic views. We stayed four nights we was not long enough!

2nd year going to Sportsman for MEA weekend. We chartered a boat for 1/2 day and totally lucked out: we got a great captain! His name was Joe and he was so experienced. Highly recommend him! Caught 24 👏🏻 We stayed in a small cabin (2 bedroom), it was perfect for the four of us - no frills, but had all we needed. Lodge staff here is always hit or miss, especially late in the season when everyone is tired and ready for the break between fall and ice fishing. Always great service over the phone though! Kids had fun at the ar arcade upstairs and adults had fun with the bar/pull tabs.

We stayed in cabin 1. Mold made it uncomfortable to sleep. Thankfully the weather was good so we spent most of the time outside. Beds were creaky. Don’t know how a bed can make that much noise? Very hard too. Time for an upgrade. Lastly, the parking lot light was brighter than the sun. So to sleep with the Window open to mitigate the mold, one was blinded by the light. Manager said she would address all these issues with maintenance.

This was the worst experience we have ever had! This was my youngest son dream trip and birthday present he turned 14 there and always wanted to go ice fishing. Epic trip to Epic Fail! The guide service is a joke it is just transportation to a hut on the lake NO advice on how to use the vexilar the guide said you'll figure it out so i had to google it . One of the rods that they gave us the handle was broke off. The jigs that they gave us on the rods wasn't the right jigs to catch the fish after talking to some of the other people that actually do this often and caught some fish had to buy some of the right jigs from their store at the lodge. And the lodge food is awful and expensive $150 for 4 people each night and they didn't even refill our drinks I had a ribeye ordered medium it came out rare and cold the next night I ordered prime rib medium and it came out like shoe leather

We stayed at the Sportsman in Late June and had a total blast. The people were amazing. The food was great and the rooms were fine. Very affordable and well worth it! We also had hell getting a chart boat to The Northwestern most point in the United States. We enjoyed the area around the hotel and the view from the deck was perfect. Craig Hockenberry Poland, Ohio

We only had dinner one evening… .and it was horrible. It was bad enough that we had them remove an item from the bill We won’t be going back to Sportsman’s Lodge. Such a disappointment given its past!

The cabins don’t have a/c, full of bugs (alive and dead), cobwebs, windows don’t work properly, not clean. It looks straight out of a horror movie. The fish cleaning house is dirty and stinks. The cabins need to be torn down and rebuilt, they’re beyond repair. The food is great and staff is nice. They do have villas which are new and very nice, clean, a/c, and no bugs. If you decide to stay there DO NOT get a cabin!!! You WILL regret it. We talked with a few other groups of people staying there and they all felt the same way. We all had to switch our rooms to the villas, it was in the 90s the week we were there and hotter in the cabin than it was outside.
