The Royal Residency was supposedly the best hotel in Bodhgaya as ranked in guide books and per our travel agency. And priced accordingly. What we found was probably the worst hotel we have ever been unfortunate enough to stay. The rooms were large but dark, old and dirty. There were stains, marks and dirt decorating all the surfaces from light... More

Visited in late Jan with a group.Clean large rooms with 2 loos (one extra toilet).Comfortable beds. Food very very average...white bread , mohun's cornflakes etc.for breakfast. Even in Bodhgaya you can bake wholewheat or wholegrain bread if you tried.Gone are the days when the average traveller is not aware of the benefits of healthy eating. The buffets have a choice of... Rooms are spacious but furnishings and plumbing are elderly. The lighting is inadequate and fades out every once in awhile. There is a flat panel TV and a frig which was dirty looking and had nothing in it. Beds are king size and comfortable. As for food, for westerners your choice is limited to white bread, bananas and cornflakes with... More

During my stay in Bodhgaya I spent two nights at this hotel. It has a large lobby area and gives you the feeling of going back in time. It is probably one of the best hotels in Bodhgaya. We had a suite which was big (with three toilets) but the furniture is dated. However, the beds were superb and comfortable.... More

Located in the Land of "Bhagwan Buddha", the Royal Residency is situated in the heart of the city of Bodhgaya. All Tourist attractions in Bodhgaya such as Mahabodhi, Japanese Temple etc. are at waking distance. The food & hospitality will speak for itself. Really enjoyed my 4 day stay.

Decent hotels in this part of India are hard to find. While I would have give an average rating if this hotel was any other city, given the other choices (or lack of them) in this area, I highly recommend this hotel. The rooms are very nice and unusually large. I did not care for the dining room, but the... More

We stayed three nights at this hotel. My wife and I have been on a Buddha site self-tour and have been reviewing all the hotels we stayed at. The hotel is clean, the staff service was average, the room was large. But the hotel had many problems during the three days that we stayed. One of the biggest problems was... More

We stayed here on a weekend trip to Bodh Gaya in Sept 2012. I've stayed dozens of nights at the Maurya Hotel in Patna, and this hotel beats the Maurya on so many levels. Very nice spacious rooms and helpful staff. Room service was not optimal, though-- and restaurant is not recommended (few to recommend in the entire town....). The... More
