We joined our daughter and family for a weekend stay just after Labor Day. As one review indicated, it is a crowded park, I believe the busiest in Michigan. That being said we had a nice lot near the beach. The down side was the distance to the restrooms which are centrally located in each camping area. The hiking opportunities... More

Ludington State Park is nestled between on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and the inland Hamlin Lake. For those unfamiliar with Lake Michigan, it is more like an inland sea than a lake. But this sea is salt free! You won't find jellyfish, coral, sharks, crabs, kelp, or sand fleas. The water temperature becomes swimmable from June through September.... More

The Ludington State Park has something for everyone. In the summer there is swimming in Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake. There are trails for hiking. In the winter there is cross country skiing. Bring you camera when you visit. More

We had heard a lot of great things about the Ludignton/Baldwin area, so thought we'd finally go check it out, and we were'nt disappointed. It's only a 2.5 hr. drive for us to this beautiful area. The location of the campgrounds is great- right between Lake Michigan and Lake Hamlin. It seems like a nice family camground, although it was... More

I am not going to argue that the campsite did feel a bit crowded yet somehow we did everything very privately. We walked out on the board walk along the lake and only passed one couple. We biked to the lighthouse and only passed a few walkers. We even tubed down the Big Sauble River and felt completely alone. At... More

My wife and I have done a fair amount of camping so believe me when I say that this is the most crowded campground I've ever seen - and likely ever will see. This campground is not for tent campers who want just a little bit of privacy. We went there just for an overnight stay in late August 2011.... More

This was our first time camping at the state park in Ludington, as we usually stay at Mears in Pentwater. What a great site we had. Even had raccoons visit in the middle of the night! As big as the park is, it felt spacious and the sites don't feel like you are on top of each other and the... More

We recently camped for 6 days at the State Park. My wife, ME and 4 young kids. Everything was great. Especially the hiking trails, very well kept. Only negative is there isn't a Trail Master and the staff we spoke with didn't seem to informed regarding the trails. But they do have detailed maps with lots of info. Campfire wood... More

We spent a week in the Silver Lake area of Michigan, taking two days in the Ludington area. The state park was a favorite part of our trip. We enjoyed a beach hike out to the picturesque light house and a picnic in the park. The men of the family canoed on the lake while the girls enjoyed nature and... More

We are torn between guarding this secret gem or sharing the good news. After nearly a lifetime of enjoying this place, I am now ready to add my praise to the growing list. Reservations are necessary for campsites, no matter what others tell you. In recent years, we have chosen to stay in town and commute to the park for... More
