My husband and I recently stayed in one of the rooms with a fireplace and hot tub. The room was in excellent condition. They provided plenty of firewood for the fireplace, matches, and a fire starter. The bathroom was very large and had a standup shower in addition to the hot tub. As far as the breakfast goes, it was... More

We had a great weekend on the house boat! Close enough to downtown restaurants and shops. It was a quick cab ride to and from. Hotel staff were very accomodating and addressed all our needs in a timely fashion. The rooms on the boat are laid out perfectly with a view of the river from both the open livingroom/kitchen and... I stayed on the House boat. We had the best time. You can sit on the deck and watch the boats go by. You feel the roll of the water and enjoy the ride without going anywhere. No reason to leave. Great kitchen! Close to everything if you really want to get off the water. More

We enjoyed our stay at the Essex Inn. The breakfast part of the B&B was pretty weak, but the room was really nice, the staff friendly and helpful. And the location was perfect for exploring the town. A nice 1 mile walk to the train station and you can be in Boston in 45min. Overall nice place, but dont hang... More

We had a one night stay in Newburyport on a recent trip around NE USA. Essex Street Inn was recommended in the Lonely Plant travel guide we had but we were disappointed by the size of room, which was however nicely decorated. The other disappointment was breakfast, which was laid out under the stairs and a small room next to... More

I've stayed at both the Essex and the Garrison recently. They both have unique charms. Essex is more of a large B&B, but with minimal breakfast. The Garrison is more of a small hotel with a great breakfast. If you like a free, included breakfast, definitely stay at the Garrison. The rooms are generally bigger and nicer. If your preference... The room we stayed in was freshly painted and included both a gas fireplace and a whirlpool tub. The king bed was very comfortable, and there was almost no noise from the streets at all. With everything together, the room was more than we expected and very nicely appointed. We were steps away from everything we needed for a fall... More

Very good location. But for the price they could provide a better continental breakfast or even a complete buffet. The rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. Walls need paint. TV is impossible to handle with SAT only showing commercial, old 20" TV, should be better to have soem new LCD. More

I stayed in the "Honeymoon" suite. It was tastefully decorated. Bed was very comfortable. Jacuzzi tub was great for two. The weather was rainy so we couldn't enjoy the rooftop sitting area - but it could have been a great spot for morning coffee. Being downtown can sometimes be noisy - it was super quiet. Parking was off street and... More

We have stayed at the Essex Street Inn twice while visiting the charming town of Newburyport, Mass. The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated; the staff is very pleasant and helpful. And what a wonderful location in downtown Newburyport with its shops and restaurants. A new addition to the Inn is the "floating cottage" which is just adorable! It's... More
