Just spent the night at the Charles Hovey House in Gloucester, MA. A trip back in time to an enchanted era accented by unique antiques, elegant décor, and fabulous plants and flowers. The spectacular views are unparalleled in scope and beauty. Top it all off with giant strawberries, delightful homemade quiche, and hot coffee for breakfast. A very special memory.... More

We held a young adult leadership symposium in the area this spring, and 16 of us ages 15-35 stayed at the Hovey House. It was a spectacular setting for our guests, and Jane was very accommodating of the group--letting us come and go as we pleased, organize our own rooming arrangements, and enjoy the common space and grounds...and the amazing... We just spent a lovely, romantic weekend at the Charles Hovey House. We wanted to escape to someplace that would lift us out of our pressured daily lives, where we could renew our spirits and unwind. We found just what we needed at this elegant historic villa overlooking Gloucester Harbor. We walked the beaches and the town for hours. Our... More

Pros: Gorgeous view, lovely lawn, walk to downtown Gloucester, house has good bones Cons: Rather run-down. We were in the 'honeymoon suite', except that it was not a suite (a single room, not separate bed / sitting rooms). Things broken in that room alone include: -broken bed (sturdy mattress, but pieces the foot of the bed was partially missing) -... More

I’m so sorry you didn’t speak with me when you were here. Breakfast is not served in a “single sitting” as you wrote. Guests may help themselves from 8:30 on (coffee earlier) and breakfast is available until the last guest has finished, whatever time that is. On warm, sunny days, such as when you were here, guests can choose to... More

We had an amazing stay at the Charles Hovey House! The gardens were in full bloom as we pulled through the gate, breathtaking views of Gloucester harbor, lavender flowers were fragrant and inviting as we walked up to the front door. The owner Jane met us with a smile and brought us through the beautifully decorated house to our room.... More

The Charles Hovey House is beautifully appointed and should be considered a historic landmark. The views of the sea are incredible, and each room is breathtakingly decorated. The bathrooms are palatial and the house is full of good energy. The breakfast was delicious and the owners are lovely people. The place is magical.

We stayed in March for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had an inviting room with an ocean view, which was nicely furnished. The house itself as well as the interior decor have immense character, and antique lovers can lose themselves here. Walking distance to downtown area. The host/owner, Jane, was friendly, informative, helpful and her breakfasts were... More

We loved everything about this place. Beautiful historic house, spectacular view, delicious breakfasts. Didn't notice any musty smell. Only the smell of the sea on the veranda and the sound of the surf. We walked the boulevard along the harbor at sunset. The sky and water were luminescent. So lovely.

We really loved everything about the Hovey House in Gloucester, MA. The owner of the B & B, Jane was most accomodating, very friendly and very knowledgeable. The view from the front porch is stunning. It is wonderful to wake up and walk outside to sit on the porch with a freshly prepared and most tasty breakfast.

The grounds, views and rooms were beautiful. We could not get past the musty smell in the foyer area. We received a tour of the rooms and bathroom prior to giving our credit card information. The entire house was very clean. We could not take a chance due to our family's allergies and asthma. We decided not to stay. Jane... More
