Even though it rained a lot while we were there, I loved reading in the cozy living room with the fire. I could happily have done that for days. My husband didn't let the rain stop him and hiked all over the island. He is very glad we chose to go there. We were there Memorial Day week when a... More

There are about three places to stay on Monhegan. One outfit manages an small Inn and a number of cottages and apartments around the island. One is a bit rustic, some units without electricity still and dinner is family style. The Island Inn is the majestic 3-story white New England stuff that postcards are made from. The Inn has a... “The Island Inn is a turn-of-the-century summer hotel, classic in style and contemporary in comfort: painted floors, oak furniture, crisp white linen and newly renovated bathrooms. Welcome is incredibly warm – we felt almost as if it was our own summer house! The island (home to a mix of artists and fishermen, and a working lobster village) is just the... More

The Island Inn is a spectacular getaway spot. It's beautiful, comfortable and clean. You don't come to Monhegan for the shopping malls, golf courses or to be entertained... The island itself is the entertainment (and there truly is nothing better). The inn is a fabulous place to stay. You have the option of a room with ocean or meadow view,... More

My wife and I spent 4 nights (post-Labor Day) at the Island Inn and greatly enjoyed it. We stayed in a bright, airy second floor side room with private bath. (No ocean front rooms were available during our stay, but we had a very nice view of the ocean through our side window and an unobstructed rear view up the... More

The Island Inn has been on Monhegan for a century or more, and is located up the hill from the ferry landing, across the channel from Manana Island. We stayed in Suite 1 and Suite 2, both of which have front sitting rooms with a killer view of Manana Island and the ocean and distant shore beyond. The food was... More

We had a corner room with a bath. It was spartan but acceptable. The view was Great. Not sure if we could have handled the shared bath which I believe that most rooms have. The breakfast was the best of all the inns we stayed at in 10 days. How can you beat Lobster scrambled eggs? The staff was helpful... More

Location, location, location... 10 miles off the coast of Maine... so relaxing, the place to go if you want to get away from it all! Rooms are basic, over priced for what you get, reflective of the NYC owners??? Cuisine was vintage Maine, should be updated to reflect the clientele it hopes to attract. This is the place to go... This hotel is lovely and a wonderful escape. It's expensive, but worth it for that once in a lifetime romantic trip to the edge of the world. We stayed for two nights and it was incredibly relaxing and comfortable. The rooms are simple, but quiet and clean (ours overlooked the harbor) and just sitting on the porch in a rocker... More

We had a corner room on the third floor with a harbor view through several windows; this alone was worth the rate. The room was medium sized and simple but elegantly appointed; it meshed with the low-key island atmosphere. The breakfasts were buffet with some a la carte options and very satisfying, with scrambled eggs with lobster daily. The dinners... More
