Bass Harbor is a brilliant option if you want to get away from the maddening crowd. We were there over a weekend in September and huge cruise ships pulled into Bar Harbor making it rather touristy and overrun – were only too pleased to retreat to the quiet side of the island which is only a 30 minute drive from... My wife and I stayed here for a few days. The people who run the bed-and-breakfast are helpful and friendly, and they know a lot about all of Mount Desert Island. The rooms are very clean, with fresh cut flowers from the garden. The area is quiet. All in all, it is the best bed-and-breakfast we have ever encountered. -... More

This charming place with a view of Bass Harbor is quiet and friendly. The morning conversations are interesting. We have everything we need for a relaxing stay, while still in range of the fabulous Acadia National Park. More

Unfortunately we could only stay one night the owner met us and was warm and friendly she gave us a free upgrade to a lake view room. It had a half bath (just a toilet and basin) with an open fire grate with wood to burn! The room was very comfortable with a lovely mix of old furniture rather than... More

We have stayed here before and we will definitely be going back. This B&B is clean and quiet, and situated in a beautiful area. Avoid the tourist noise and crowds of Bar Harbor (although it is no more than a 30 minute drive) and stay on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park. The charming 2nd... More

It sounded great but it was the opposite. First we phoned with the landlady. She supposed to be very nice and promissed us a lovely room with a queen-size-bed and a great breakfast with selfmade bread. The reality was converse: small bed (only for one person), disgusting shower cabin and a prisoner´s breakfast. The water pipes in the house were... More

We were looking for a one night stay in the Alcadia Park. We got the recommendation from the tourist office. We called the landlady the same day. She seemed very lovely so we were more than happy to have found such a nice place. As we arrived at the inn we were very disappointed. The room was so tiny, the... More

I thought the inn was in a great location, and the inn, itself is nice. We stayed in the largest room which had a small kitchen and bath. The room was unique; however, I felt could have used some updating. The couch had holes in it, the towels were see through and troll size. The breakfast made you yurrn for... More

We had booked a room for a short stay; even at the modest price of $100 in August this room was truly sub standard. Squeaky and leaky door let in mosquitoes, room smelled quite moldy and was extremely small. Even with MDI prices being on the high side, this room is way overpriced. There was no common room in this... More

Loved this place--location was decidedly non-touristy, the breakfast was perfect, and the owner was warm and wonderful. The rooms are simple and the place is no-nonsense. My only complaint is that the restaurants on this side of Mt. Desert are overpriced and of poor quality. Eat in Bar Harbor, hike all over the island, and stay at the Bass Harbor... More
