We planned a trip to Iowa City over the 4th of July to visit our son who now works there. I had not thought of a B&B, but was not happy with the hotel choices and locations. I happened upon the Mission House and made reservations. It was the easiest reservation I ever made. I have stayed at a number... More

Where to start... Shirley and Ray are the most gracious of hosts, warm, welcoming and very engaging. They are truly the ultimate hosts. The B & B is truly a home, and is very beautiful. The room was very spacious and inviting. The Mission House is only eight blocks from downtown Iowa City and is well worth the walk. The... More

I just loved my stay with Shirley and Ray at their Mission House B&B. Their brand of hospitality is warm and their primary interest is making sure the guests are comfortable and well fed. Probably the best gauge of their B&B is how many people return year after year. They have an impressive list of returnees and I will be... More

My wife and I just spent the weekend in Iowa City for the summer arts fest and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Shirley and Ray are wonderful people, the house is immaculate, the location is close to everything, quiet neighborhood, and the breakfasts were awesome. Baked pears with vanilla yogurt and homemade granola, pumpkin pancakes, fruit omelettes... More

My stay at the Mission House in Iowa City one of the best experiences I've had traveling (and I have traveled a lot). The house is extremely well maintained, the bedrooms are tastefully decorated, the breakfasts are yummy, and the hospitality and professionalism of the owners is unbeatable. Each of the rooms has a private bath, great hair dryer, etc.... More

Shirley and Ray really know how to be hosts to their marvelous bed and breakfast. My first visit was for Freshman Orientation at the University of Iowa and my second visit was to get my daughter nested in her dorm at the beginning of school. I felt so comfortable with Ray and Shirley that my daughter will stay there as... More

Shirley and Ray were fabulous. Shirley was sweet and a great cook/hostess. Ray likes to joke around and tease. I felt totally safe as a woman traveling alone. The house is spotless. My key let me in the back door so I could come and go as I pleased. The room was spacious with a private bath and everything appeared... More

My husband just attended the Iowa Summer Writing Festival for a week long seminar. I happily went along for the ride. We are so glad we stayed with Ray and Shirley (the Owners)! We had read the reviews about the food being wonderful and the Hosts feeling like family... but I have to say I was skeptical before we arrived... More

A wonderful B&B. Excellent hospitality from Ray & Shirley - we were treated like part of the family. They were so warm, friendly and very helpful. Wonderful breakfasts - all home cooked. The location was also excellent, close to the river walk but within walking distance of the bars and restaurants downtown. Thanks for making our visit to Iowa City... More

We stayed with Ray and Shirley when we were visiting Iowa City to attend a wedding. The couple made us feel extraordinarily welcome and made everything easy and straightforward. Their hospitality is first class - you got the sense that they actually enjoyed having guests. From the number of repeat visitors and long term stays at the B&B, there is... More
