Stayed in this quaint hotel 2 nights in October 2011. This is a turn of the century hotel that has been redone. It is just gorgeous with lots of dark wook and antiques. The room was huge with a king size bed and jacuzzi tub. It is in a part of downtown that has been redone so there are plenty... More

Visiting Waterloo / Cedar Falls are on business or leisure??? Forget the chain hotels (sorry Hampton) for once and stay at The Black Hawk. Hotel is historic with a variety of room options. Single rooms are smaller and bathrooms tiny. However the hotel is filled with Character. Friendly staff, great lobby, real keys, attached restaurant and an awesome Martini Bar.... More

Claiming to be the longest operating hotel in Iowa this awesome property on the National Historic Register is just one of the draws of this cool college town. There's a thriving pedestrian friendly downtown with neat shops, bars and restaurants on which the Black Hawk is perfectly situated. Cool lounges make it a nice place to hang out too. We... More

We went to Cedar Falls for a wedding and the bride set us up in the Black Hawk instead of the commercial hotels near the reception site. What a blessing! It is a beautiful place with a lot of character you won't find in a chain hotel. We stayed in a suite in the top floor where they took several... More

We decided to make a stop in Cedar Falls, and as soon as we saw the Black Hawk's website, we knew that's where we wanted to stay. We like historical buildings, and the decor looked great. When we arrived, the staff was very nice, and we were pleased with the room we ended up with - comfortable bed, whirlpool tub,... More

We recently accompanied my parents on a trip to Iowa to see some old family farms, graves and houses. Yeah, I know it doesn't sound like a ripping time, but it really was and one of the highlights was the Black Hawk Hotel. Most of my trips to Cedar Falls/Waterloo have been business trips and mostly involving the university so... More

Loved this place. We had originally had a room booked in the main hotel, but due to circumstances beyond our control had to change our reservation to three days later. Hence, the hotel was booked and we had to take a room in the more contemporary motor lodge. It, too, was great. The decor was amazing for a hotel, tho... More

Just got on the net to post a review of our stay at the Black Hawk last weekend and it’s interesting how different reviews can be. My wife and I found the staff and accommodations at the hotel impeccable and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The staff was super and the room beautifully maintained. The hotel occupies a... First and foremost, if you like history you will like the Black Hawk Hotel. No elevator to the second floor but then neither do most modern motels. Besides, it would detract from the 19th century look of the hotel. No recirculating pump for the hot water so you had to let it run for a few minutes. The room was... More

I had stayed at the BHH once a few winters ago and the room was alright but not great. Then I had a room on the 2nd floor with a very cold bathroom and a very odd space plan. This time I was on the ground floor and found the room to be more comfortable. The bathroom is a 3/4... More
