Stayed in the Stephen Foster State park the week of May 21, 2012. I could find very little info concerning the state of the swamp and the activities due to drought therefore would like to fill in with present conditions. Much of the swamp is dry and therefore not much to look at other than miles of pine trees. The... More

We camped for 2 nights at the park and really enjoyed all the wildlife including gators, raccoon, deer, owls, turkey vultures, and much more. However, we did not enjoy the mosquitoes so make sure you take repellent, screens, etc... The swamp is actually very beautiful The boat tour was great and then we rented a canoe to get even closer.... More

We just stayed at the Eco-lodge which is 18 miles away from Stephen Foster State Park, but is part of the park. Our extended family took three of the rooms, a huge two bedroom with high vaulted ceilings and plenty of room for everyone to congregate, a one bedroom and an efficiency. We celebrated Thanksgiving there. While there was very... More

Stephen Foster is on the west side of the Okefenokee refuge, the main entrance is on the east side and it takes about an hour to travel the distance. I recommend staying at least two nights if you want to see the whole refuge, Stephen Foster is very clean and quiet, we'd stay again. I HIGHLY recommend contacting Okefenokee Adventures... More

Fantastic quiet state park, a great jumping off point for touring the Okeefenokee National Wildlife Refuge (the state park is right in the middle of it!) Campsites are very nice, none are "primitive". Each has fresh water spigots and electrical hookups, comfort stations are an easy stroll away. Very nice interpretive center. The best part of this park however is... More

We were worried about the water level for canoeing and whether the flies and mosquitos would keep us from enjoying camping. The best way to find out is call the park! Water levels were good for canoeing and bugs not bad (at the beginning of May 2009). There were some mosquitos at dusk and after dark but didn't bother us... More

We spent 5 nights at the park in early November. Our cabin was extremely clean and equipped with everything we needed. The floors all looked new. Morning & evening the deer wandered all around the cabins and the park. We took the state park boat tour into the park. The guide was helpful and informative. For the rest of the... More

During the hurricane season of '05, my wife and I chose to evacuate, along with the other 20 million Floridians, in a northwesternly direction from Orlando. I don't know how in the heck we ended up in this place, but after driving through the entire state of GA and not finding a hotel room anywhere, staying here was a true... More

We decided to take my son to see the gators. Our main aim was to walk the boardwalks. There are two boardwalks, one through a piney area, the other through the swamp. When we arrived, we were dismayed to learn the boat tours were cancelled due to low water levels. We chose the latter boardwalk, walked the entire length, including... More
