Our family stayed at the Kona Kai during spring break last March. Kona Kai is locally owned and staying there is very different from staying in a condo or hotel. You will get to know the manager, who can be very helpful for recommending sites to see, beach access, restaurants, etc., as well as the owner. Your fellow guests may... more

This was our 3rd and last stay at Kona Kai. Our first experience was before the 2004 hurricanes. Our second was in 2005. Our third and last was 1 week ago. Upon arriving and check-in we found our room nice and cool, but it took no time for that to change. We found the television's cable unplugged. The cable guy... more

We found and booked this resort thanks to Tripadvisor and thanks to the pics takne from another guest! We saw that they were able to meet rackoons and we asked for suggestions! We were told to take the motel rooms near the Olde Sanibel River because, even if they are smaller, they are in a more quiet position and in... more

I have stayed at the Kona Kai no less than ten times and have NEVER been disappointed with accommodations, service, friendly faces to greet my arrival, and the local recommendations for food, shopping or other tourist services. As a family local that grew up on Sanibel, but then relocated for work, I have no interest in the high society Hotel... more

We got there late and the room was 140 degrees, the 4000BTU Air conditioner did not work well, and the window was UP!!!!!! Nobody told us that secret until we were checking out the next day!!!!!! How the heck were we supposed to know the window behind the blinds was up???? They had about a 50lb Raccoon walking on the... more

My stay at Kona Kai was unplanned, nonetheless Wonderful ! Although I did not have a Reservation, the Owner, 'Captain' Dennis and the Sweet & Very Helpful Office Manager - Elizabeth found a way to 'fit me in'. The Hotel is in an ideal location, close to everything on the island! During my entire stay, I found myself feeling welcomed,... more

My wife and I stayed at Kona Kai for a few days during our 'drive round Florida' honeymoon and we loved it. It is a pretty motel, good location with onsite parking and well kept gardens. The swimming pool was clean and the office had an open door policy. Our room was not the best; a little on the 'worn'... more

The Kona Kai staff have been so wonderful during a very sad time in our family. We have traveled from NY with a 2 year old and the accomodations have been perfect for a family. Some of the family had singe rooms that were lovely-having a kitchen and living room was just great for us. The close proximity to stores,... more

Beautiful, Romantic. Great Location for entering and exiting the island. Across the street from bicycle rental and a great little tricket shop that kids can afford to shop at. Everything is accessible from here. I loved the romantic feel here. I definately felt like I was in paradise. Cozy porches with comfy chairs to sit and relax and let the... more

We stayed at Kona Kai for a week at the end of March 2009. Dennis, the owner, needs to take a more active role in his property. We have stayed at many places on Sanibel Island and this one, by far, was the worst. The bright spot was Elizabeth, the manager, who upgraded our room and tried to rectify many... more
