The place reminded us of a down on its luck old English stately home...oak panelling stuffed animals on the walls and the rooms in the main house aren't used any more. The receptionist was amazing with the customer focus of a bored teenager although she was much older. She seemed amazed when we said we would take the room after... More

My husband and I recently traveled with some friends to the Everglades and thought it would be wonderful to experience the history and charm of the historic Rod and Gun. Well, historic it is. The rooms were rustic, the linens were worn too much for my taste and the bathroom was dirty. Which for me is a real big issue.... More

This is a place with great potential, but it needs a bit of work. It did not appear that sufficient attention was paid to cleaning and maintenance. There was litter outside the building where our room was located, and the screen door to the porch that served our 3 units did not close, letting in mosquitoes (my wife fixed it).... More

We stopped in to see the place, and it's cooler than the pictures give it justice. Old paneling lots of intricate detail and old furnishings. Unfortunately we stopped in for a drink and ended up being sent to the dining room where the waitress proceeded to set us up for dinner. It was a little embarrassing getting out of there... More

Now this is a place to see! Yeah, the waitress "auctioned" our food (when some one takes your order they shouldn't have to ask who ordered what); yeah, they only had one red wine and one white wine ; yeah, the woman who owns the place doesn't seem to care but THIS is a place time forgot: deeply paneled walls... We stopped by for a quiet lunch on the veranda, watching the boats go by on the river. The main room of the lodge provides a feel for the rich history of this part of the everglades, its worth a close look. The service was slow, but we were in no hurry, and the lunch - a 'seafood salad' -... More

We stayed in Everglade city in January and we found this hotel. It is old style, that is nice for us, but the room was smelling really bad that we had to sleep with the door open, the bathroom and the floor were dirty, dust under the bed and pieces of papers on the floor. No wi-fi, no breakfast, no... More

As others have said the Rod and Gun Lodge may once have been the place to stay but not anymore. You cannot stay in the hotel anymore, instead you are placed in one of the tiny bungalows within the grounds. These are in a poor state of repair. When we visited in december the heating was faulty and when trying... More

Don't even think about eating, drinking or staying here. The food is of a very poor standard & vastly overpriced. The service is dreadful.

Please don't let your staff smoke on the front steps of your property. It's not at all welcoming when you have to walk past them to check in and another time when we were going up the steps to the bar by the pool. $125/night in January is not bad for accommodation in Florida in season and there are not...
