I was buying a property in Litchfield County and needed somewhere to call home for 5 weeks. I was fortunate to find a home at the historic Tollgate Hill Inn. I had a wonderful Junior Suite complete with four poster bed, comfortable couches, and a roaring fireplace ... I was cared for as though I was a much-loved member of... More

I took my girlfriend to Tollgate Hill Inn last weekend for her birthday. I figured I'd spend a little extra money than usual hoping to get my extra dollar's worth. I would have been better off at a Holiday Inn. We stayed in Suite #21 in the Captain William Bull House. I'll let the pictures do the talking but in... More

We never visited Litchfield before, and we as a family of four were really looking forward to exploring this town. We stayed in The Tollgate for 5 nights and enjoyed the friendly service and really clean comfy rooms. If you are ever in Litchfield, we really recommend staying here!

I'd definitely stay again.....It was a girls-getaway weekend for my birthday, and when we arrived to check-in there were balloons waiting for me. (Thanks Alicia, it really made my weekend special). We stayed in the Schoolhouse which is rustic and charming, and we made good use of the fireplace! I loved that they had it all ready for us....just light... More

I was hoping to have a nice weekend away and take advantage of the charm Litchfield and the surrounding towns offer in spades. And this was what I got. The Inn is not high luxury but comfortable and nice. The people working there are kind, down to earth and accommodating. I will return!

This is an authentic colonial inn - rustic and charming. Many original details. If you are looking for an old inn, with all its rustic charm still intact, this is the place for you. The rooms in the tavern and old schoolhouse are crooked and charming in period furnishings - ours had a working gas fireplace. - This is not... More

I can't comment on the rooms/inn but we ate in the restaurant and all I can say is ask for Barbara for your server. She is the best server I have ever had. She is a wealth of knowledge on the food, pairing and choices. She seems to truly love food and service (rare these days ) and making the... More

I spent a weekend at the Tollgate Hill Inn in October and it was a great time! When we arrived, there were cookies and hot apple cider waiting at the check in desk, the staff was hospitable and friendly, and we were provided with great recommendations about things to do in the area and places to dine. We stayed in... More

There are rooms in three separate buildings. There is the original tavern building, a schoolhouse building, and a newer building. The rooms in the tavern building feel as though they are still from the 1800's (this is not a good thing). They are dirty, smelly, dark, etc. The schoolhouse rooms are nice, but you had best book the entire building,... More

I'm not sure if it is the restaurant or the other building that is giving this place any kind of reasonable rating. It probably needs to be seperated into the restaurant and the hotel. We had a terrible stay here. The noise from the restaurant was terrible in our room with drunken patrons loudly bragging and laughing until 11:30 pm.... More
