I love Volcano and have had a few good meals at the Union Inn, but when I looked into staying at the bed and breakfast, I thought twice about it because of the pictures of the rooms posted online. It's a shame, because the rooms are so much better than they look in those pictures, and I would have stayed... More

We recently stayed here on a sightseeing trip through gold country. The tiny town of Volcano is slightly off the beaten path but worth it to spend the night here. Clean air and plenty of birds and frogs chirping away. We had a very spacious, modernly decorated room but our bathroom had a lovely deep clawfoot tub. Heaven right there!... More

We booked the hotel after reading the review on Sunset magazine a year ago. The Inn was small with only 4 bedrooms but had clean bathrooms, great quality towels, and great bed and warm beddings. This is not to mention the restaurant food that they have downstairs! Even though the tax rate increase wasn't reflected on their website when I... More

My sister, mother, son and I began a long weekend in Gold Country at this charming inn. I love this tiny gem of a village. There's not much there, and that's the appeal. None of the kitsch and crowds; just nice walks, a lovely park, several landmarks, a great country store and small art gallery (both with apparently short and... More

After a day of wine tasting around Amador (favorite wineries for our group included Convergance, Drytown Cellars, and Cooper), we arrived at the Union Inn around 5pm on Saturday. We checked in and stopped in the bar for a refreshment. The place was pretty full, so we asked about bringing our drinks up to the balcony on the second floor.... More

Friends had recommended the Union Inn as a weekend getaway. We stayed one night and had dinner in the restaurant downstairs. Our room was spacious, very clean, lovely warm ambiance. We bundled up and sat outside on the porch that over looks the little tiny town and relaxed! The bed was VERY comfy, cozy! The DVD player in our room... More

We eat out a LOT and live in the SF East Bay Area. We can rarely say that EVERYTHING we eat during a restaurant meal is the best we've ever had, but this was the case at the Volcano Union Inn. We were referred there by a local businessperson in Sutter Creek and were told to expect an informal, relaxed... More

This is a very nice, casual place to stay. The room had all the comforts we could want, dinner downstairs was great, the employees were helpful and friendly. We'll go back in the summertime when there is local theater, and there's a lot of winetasting nearby too.

My boyfriend and I always enjoy our evenings here. The food is wonderful! We have many favorites. However, I suggest asking about their daily specials. We are fortunate that they are nearby to visit frequently. Highly recommended!

My hub and I were in tiny Volcano for the festive Scottish candle light walk....rather than drive back to civilization decided to overnight at the Union Inn. If you are seeking a fancy boutique hotel or crave the B & B cult experience of being coddled by innkeepers, sharing breakfast & your fondest wishes and dreams with your fellow lodgers... More

Welcome to the Volcano Union Inn!How The West Was Won Fun!Take the WILD RIDE to Volcano to enjoy great food, friendly faces and comfortable lodgingThe Union Inn Hotel was built in 1880 by four itinerate French Canadians for $400. It was a boarding house for hard-working miners and locals until the 1920's. It enjoyed a brief reawakening in the 1950's, and thereafter it was, by turns, vacant and empty, a private residence, and finally it was restored into a lovely destination in 2000 by the David/Burney Family. Now the Volcano Union Inn is reborn as a California Pub and Four-Room Bed and Breakfast in the picturesque village of Volcano, deep in the heart of Amador County and the California Gold Country. ... more   less
