My husband had work in Downtown Santa Barbara so I traveled with him for some R&R. Santa Barbara is a Dog friendly town so I had researched many places to stay that accepted pets. The Ala Mar not only has a budget price but a great location across the street from the beach and pier. It is an 'old school'... more

We arrived in Santa Barbara late at night, that's how we got a good deal for one of the "studios" or larger rooms, I'm not sure what they call it. The motel is in the central part of the town, by the ocean separated from it only by the ocean drive and the beach. The room was beautifully furnished with... more

The outside looked like it might be cute. The noise from the street kept us up all night, along with the noise from the VA club next door. Could hear everything, all night long. In the morning, I went to the front desk, and asked to be moved to another property. Staff was very friendly. Moved us to the Villa... more

Dear reviewers, don't be so "childish" please! We stayed in a lot of motels/ hotels...mostly did we get what we paid for. In Santa Barbara right on the boulevard...a less expensive motel compared to the other nearby motels. Yes, the rooms are not really upscale, but what do you think? For that money on that place. Don't bother, don't make... more

Great location near State St. and the beach, but the room was a bit rough. Included an outdoor patio, but very limited parking lot. Room was quiet (especially considering it was a Friday night). Decor could use an update, to say the least. Continental breakfast was a nice bonus. more

Hotel from the outside appeared to have all of the quaint features that the photos on line said it had. My sister and I were looking for a short get away and so the Ala Mar Motel was chosen as our destination. At first we were okay with the run down interior, the running toilet, and the lack air conditioning.... more

Our room cost us $250.We had a last minute trip to Santa Barbara and wanted to be near the beach. Made a huge mistake of not asking to see the room first. My husband and I are very easy to please, stayed at plenty of dumpy places in our years of traveling as well as some very nice places for... more

Stayed once before, small problems. Both times I stayed upstairs. The internet pictures must be downstairs or another hotel. Bathroom window would not shut or lock. Needed to call management to help get heat on. Second time I knew it had "Beach Charm" old but nice. Got up to take a shower, no water. Desk manager was very nice and... more

Room was OK for the price. We pulled off the highway in. Check in staff was friendly and helpful. Morning staff was the pitts. The desk clerk actually yelled at a customer who took her seat at a dining table in the crowded breakfast area, We had called the same desk clerk an hour before about the wifi being out... more

Was stopping at santa barbara for one night as part of road trip down the pacific highway, walked in off the street managed to stay in room 107 on ground floor for $93, parking, wifi and small breakfast included too. Young guy in the office was really helpful and let us look at room first. Room was ok, two large... more
