The problem here is they are charging $102.75. Now if they were charging say $77.75 I would rate them as average. Room was OK and was spacious with big bathroom. But they had this massive rear projection TV that must have been 100 inch screen taking up a lot of space and it did not work!! As far as location... More

This looks like or is a 1950 style motel. Second floor gives a better view of the ocean. Amenities are few, you see what you get and pay for. More

This place is very strange...the office is never open; if you call to make a reservation, you get voice mail and they don't call you back; the phone in the room doesn't work; the carpets are filthy; people will wake you up at the crack of dawn with yelling across the parking lot or letting their kids run up and... Our office is open 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The office phone is answered by staff during office hours and forwarded to Monterey Reservations when the office is closed. Phones in guest rooms work for local calls only; no long distance. The rude behavior of some guests, and their children (staying with us for... More

Quite simply this place is crap. Carpets dirty, filthy swimming pool, lies about when it gets fixed, horrible bathrooms with dirt everywhere. Appears more like a drug dealers tinnie house than an accommodating site. Dirty, filthy, squalor, should be condemned by the council as a national disgrace. More

I read all the reviews before going and hoped that all would be OK. Whilst I understand that changes in staff are on going, the cleanliness was extremly poor. As reported elsewhere carpets are incrediablly dirty and it appeared somebody had changed their bike oil in our room. My feet stuck to the carpet so I left my shoes on.... More

This is another one of those funky beach motels that some people can get into and some just can't handle. For us, it was just OK. We arrived around 6 p.m. and the office was closed. Our key was left in an envelope for us, which was fine, but when we discovered we had no ice bucket or cups we... More

Because our usual spot near Asilomar has gone down in quality, I used Trip Advisor's positive comments to book this place. When we left, we learned that Arlene, who ran the place with Bob, had died, and since then he hired someone to be on-site innkeeper. So read our experience in light of this management change. When we arrived, we... More

The staff at the Beachcomber Inn did their very best to provide MsAudubon (alias) good lodging and service. Regarding events and statements in this posting: 1. Bob and Arlene were the innkeepers for a number of years and Bob (NOT Arlene) died in June, 2010. 2. No new innkeepers have been hired (to date). 3. Arlene left the Beachcomber January,... More

We were traveling with 4 children, myself and my husband. We received a call as we were arriving into Monterey, from the hotel that our two room suite for $75.50 would not be available do to plumbing problems and that they were very sorry. She proceeded to give me a phone number to call that would try and help find... More

I guess the rate was pretty good for Monterey but it's an old place with poor construction and the rooms are very small. There was an "old" smell at first until we aired the rooms. The little decks at the back are not private, with cheap table/chairs, and you look past other decks for a view of the ocean. All... More

We stayed in room 24, there was a "breath-rite" nose strip, stuck to the side of the nitestand. the sliding glass door was horribly dirty The carpet is super stained and smells bad, The bed sucks. We got some used... More
