“Don't be fooled by first impressions”

This 3-star "folk guesthouse" in the heart of old Pingyao is superficially appealing. Like most guesthouses in the town, it has a pleasing courtyard surrounded by traditional rooms, all furnished with a kang (traditional raised sleeping platform), colorful coverlets, and "antiquey" furniture. However, the bathroom was terrible, having no shower enclosure and the only drain placed nowhere near the showers;thus... More
