I arrived in the early evening ahead of my boyfriend. After ringing the doorbell twice and knocking once, I went to a side door which was open. Sticking my head in with a 'hello', the Proproitoress came rushing up and asking me my business. I explained that I had a reservation for 2 nights. She stated that this was 'Not... More

My wife and I enjoyed a recent one night stay at Shaw House. The B & B as well as Ferndale is a wonderful step back in time. The owner knew the area well and provided good travel advice. The owner even arranged a horse back ride through the Redwoods for us on the day we left. The rooms and... More

A wonderfully quirky, comfortable and welcoming B&B.I loved the "history corner" and shop. It gave us a better understanding of how hard life must have been for the first settlers there and really not that long ago. Food good. Paula a good host and knowledgeable about the restaurants in the area. Ferndale itself is an atmospheric place with wonderful examples... More

Our wedding day was perfect. Romantic, beautiful, magical. The Shaw House (Paula) made our special day match all the hopes and dreams I'd had, it was wonderful. It was just the 2 of us and the beautiful garden. Champagne, a perfect little cake and my love, my new husband.

Excellent choice. We arrived in Ferndale at approx 1:30PM and had lunch at the Victorian Inn, downtown. It was an awesome lunch!!! We finished at 3:00PM which is check-in time. Paula greeted us with a smile and after we took care of the usual business and getting our key, she showed us around the premises. It's a beautiful place and... More

I am not a B&B person, but this place was really great. Wonderful products in the shower/bath, and an amazing breakfast in the morning - my only gripe was that they did not have non-dairy milk:) One thing - be sure to really ask about the bathroom situation. We booked our room online that said "private bath", and it did... More

You were wonderful guests! We look forward to having you back one day. And we're keeping almond milk in the fridge now. Thanks for the suggestion. More

We ended up here because the Victorian Inn was full. Had high expectations when we drove up and saw the outside which looks really nice, quaint... just want you'd expect from a b&b. Unfortunately, their main concern is making money. Too bad they don't put any of that money into upkeep on the rooms. The beds were comfortable and breakfast... More

My friend & I visited in early June, by a less than friendly owner who seemed that any questions or suggestions we had (such as a fire in the freezing main rooms) utterly beneath her & out of the question. I spent the whole 2 days in the house in a heavy sweater & coat. Rooms were just OK, &... More

While we are disappointed that this is our guests memory of her stay, it doesn't match ours in any way. We have no snarly people employed here, and these ladies were treated with the utmost courtesy and compassion actually. Being quite elderly, they repeatedly had trouble with simple operations. We were glad to help and were concerned that dementia was... More

I started to flee the Shaw House when we found the parking to be strange and the less than friendly young woman greeted us with "Do you have a reservation?" Just like a hotel. She then led us to a very small room and to a desk - just like in a hotel! First order of business: get that credit... More

We were here for two days on our anniversary trip and just loved it, the Bookside room had most comfortable bed EVER, a fun and pretty room with a vaulted 16" perhaps ceiling and a clerestory window, and rather than the ordeal of the B&B breakfast the host keeps you well supplied with Coffee, tea, sodas, wine and snacks. Lots... More
