look across the river to a view of the local car wrecking yard and school bus yard..Nice go down the street and find the neighbors are a 1940s trailer park. Next to that is a lot litterally full of junk-old campers from the 60s old tractors, machine parts. One house has an old semi in the front yard with a... More

My family has visited Downieville for AGES. To start off, I have visited Downieville every year for my entire life, and I am 15. We started off staying at a place called the Lure, but there was a lice epidemic, so that was out. When I was about 5, we started staying here. It was the best place possible. We... More

My husband and I were travelling through the Gold Country in California, enjoying the charming towns that enhance the beautiful Sierras. Downieville, we learned, could have been the capitol of California. I think it is a good idea that it came in second. Although our room at the River Inn was quite clean and had a lovely balcony overlooking the... More

We stayed one night in June, weather was perfect, the river is beautiful and so peaceful. Our room was very attractively decorated, cozy and clean, with microwave and small fridge. We enjoyed our stay there very much, the owners were delightful and very helpful. Downieville is a great area for exploring on foot.

The Downieville River Inn and Resort is my kind of place: unpretentious, full of character, and surrounded by natural beauty. We were greeted in the parking lot by the manager, who made us feel right at home. He showed us our room, which I immediately loved. The place was built in the '30s, screen doors and porches. Drinking coffee, eating... More

My family first stayed at the River Inn in August 2008, before the change in management, and I can honestly say that improvements have been made by the new management that have improved conditions at the River Inn. My family (2 adults and 3 teenagers) stayed for 5 days at the River Inn and did notice that our rooms were... More

Actually, I would rate our overall experience something between "okay but some problems" and "terrible." It doesn't seem clean for one thing. As I lay on the bed, I looked up to see a family of spiders hanging above me. The beds are pretty uncomfortable. Downieville itself is quite the dump. Dogs barking all night, guys roaring through town in... More

I stayed just one night so that I could ride the great mountain bike trails around Downieville on Saturday and Sunday. I was won over by the charm of the hotel. It was built in the 30's, has 10 rooms and 3 cottages, and is starting to show some signs of wear. It could use a little TLC. But I... More

The Downieville River Inn is nothing like the pictures posted on its website! The Inn is not on the river like it says- there is a busy road between the Inn and the river. Also, the Inn is surrounded by parking lots in the front and back of it. The room we booked looked like it had a balcony view... More

We dropped in without reservations and stayed for two nights on the 24th and 25th of July, 2006. They had ample vacancy despite a major event was taking place in town on the following weekend. Staff promptly went out of their way to make us happy, bending over backwards whenever we had a request, and even found someone for us... More
