Unfortunately, when we booked our beach-front camping spot, we made the mistake of taking the 1 down from San Francisco, rather than the 101. On the map, it appeared to be about the same distance. Wrong! In other words, we missed most of our reservation time in Carpenteria. When we finally arrived, we thought the ranger at the check-in station... More

November 2012. We are in our early 40's, no kids. We were there to surf and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP). Little surf, but great for SUPing. The ocean was so close. Found several sand dollars. We stayed Tuesday-Thursday. The bathrooms were clean, the showers $.50-$.75 and hot. We chose a $35 camp site over the $50. Glad we did, there... More

This place is split into different areas, some of which look ok, but the area we were in was hideous. As others have said, tarmac and dirt up against a chainlink fence and the amtrak. Not a blade of grass permitted! We joined the queue to get our money back, which was cheerfully refunded (it's clearly a common occurence!)

Great place to camp, all be it tent, trailer et al. Close to water, town has anything needed. If lazy most resturants deliver to campsite. rent almost anything. Food needs within walking distance. Rincon bikes has good.pricing and.fair repair work, as well as honest advice. Rustys pizza a good value and fast. Easu's cafe and worker bee cafe are our... More

The showers were dirty, the restrooms looked like they haven't been cleaned since weeks and also smelled like that. We stayed there for one night, then left early and used the restrooms in a restaurant. I also had the feeling that the ranger didn't really care much about my feedback. And this for 50$ there are fare better ones like... More

We stayed here for one night in August, a Saturday. We didn't make a reservation until 4 days prior, and I guess that was our mistake because they put us in a lot directly next to the bathroom. When we went to see if we could switch to a different site, we were told everything was reserved. Well, it was... More

We live locally and did a quick 2 night end of summer trip. We would go again only if we could get beach front. We have a tent trailer and the campsites are so small all they fit are the trailer and our truck, so its only worth it if you have the beach right out your trailer door. Also... More

Our first time here was when I was very small.. and the train scared the living (you know what) out of us. It takes some getting used to. But after you get over the initial shock, it is just back ground noise. This place is a sanctuary to our family. The small town to ride our bikes into, the beach,... More

most of the reviewers are crazy! This place is the worst for tent camping. Small dirt lots next to a chain link fence and Amtrak running right next to you ALL hours of the day. Yes the beach is close but yes bathrooms are dirty and not maintained well. Many rodents and LARGE raccoons.

The only thing nice about this campground is its close proximity to the beach. Its a great beach in a fantastic community. However, other than that it is falling apart, many of the sites are literally right next to the railroad tracks, the bathrooms/showers are disgusting and it is cramped. The showers cost 25 cents per 3 minutes and they... More
