The lodges at Buena Vista Lodge are nice. Lodge was clean, good size, all made of wood. Pretents to be an ecofriendly lodge, but the shower got cold every 20 seconds, so it took longer to take a shower. Staff is very kind and helpful. They welcome you with some juice. Be aware that this location is very remote. The... More

This is a lodge for people who want to come and enjoy Rincon de la Vieja Volcano in a sustainable, eco-friendly way that is causing the least amount of disturbance to it's delicate habitat and the little creatures that live amongst it. Therefore this review is rating it as what it is, an eco-lodge. If you come here expecting a... More

On my recent trip to Costa Rica I wanted to get a lot of the tourist-y stuff out of the way in one day. I was staying at the Reserva Conchal and wanted to stay near the beaches as much as possible, however the trip inland a bit to Buena Vista Lodge was well worth it. The drive was a... More

I felt sort of tricked by both the website advertising and our Frommer's guide with regard to this lodge's location. While it is on the edge of the Rincon de la Vieja park, it does not offer access to the national park trails. But whatever, we only wanted a nice place to sleep before doing more extensive hiking in the... More

Buena Vista is a comfortable, lovely location at the base of Rincon de la Vieja. There rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The food is a buffet style but so fresh and well prepared. Drinks are cheap and the service is courteous and attentive. The activities on site are all really cool options as well.

This is my second trip to the Buena Vista Lodge. First trip was May, 2011 with OAT. This trip I was traveling by myself through Costa Rica and spent 5 nights/6 days at Buena Vista. I love the property and had a wonderful vacation. I went horseback riding, zip lining and hiking and all of the experiences were great. I... More

We booked this hotel thinking it was close to the volcano, but it still took us over an hour the next morning. It is a hotel property that caters to tour buses and has adventures like water slides, horseback riding, etc. However, the tour business must have been down as all but one of the restaurants was closed along with... Our property has been categorized as a mountain lodge and per our location it is a 19miles from Liberia. BuenaVista lodge provides many adventure activities like Canopy, Horseback Riding, hot springs. Those come to be very attractive, not only for hotel guests but for the ones staying at beach hotels located even 2 hours away from here. The property has... More

This will be the 1st time I write a really negative review. Simply because I always try to relativate things: after all, words carry weight (especially on this site), and my motivation to write reviews is to inform as objectively as humanly possible my fellow travellers, not to spill my guts in a negative sense. My motivation in THIS case... More

The resort sits halfway up the side of the 6000 foot Rincon de la Vieja (The Old Woman's Corner) volcano. To the west are miles of pasture and a great view of the Pacific. In the other directions are forests and hot springs. The resort offers horseback riding, mud baths and hot springs pools, several zip lines in the forest,... More

The site is beautiful but beyond that it isn't really worth the trip because there isn't that much to do and the fact that one must pay for each activity is a downer. Here is what there is to do... horseback or tractor to hot springs walk to hot springs (mostly along an unpleasant dirt road) walk to waterfalls (3.5... More
