I read the review in Food Belfast back in January about Gary Bell's superbly valued tasting menu. So we booked this for our wedding anniversary stopping overnight in the hotel. The room itself was traditionally dressed with a smallish bathroom, but adequate for our needs and a lovely four poster bed with a view overlooking Strangford Lough. My must in... More

Four of us arrived in sunny Portaferry in need of refreshment. We looked through the restaurant windows of the Portaferry Hotel and saw pristine white tablecloths and sparkling glasses and got an immediate good impression ...... we decided to have our tea and coffee outside in the sunshine and enjoy the view of the lough. When our order was delivered... More

Stayed here 16-18 May 2012 and had a Lough View room which was very nice -view was lovely. Evening meal was great. Breakfast was OK but a bit lacking if you prefer a healthier option - the fresh fruit consisted of apples and oranges with a couple of bits of pineapple! Also the muesli was a packet of Alpen. Porridge... More

Stayed here for one night with my husband and daughter. Much better than we expected and great value for bed and breakfast. We had very clean adjoining rooms at the front with a great view over the lough towards Strangford. I had expected it to be noisey due to location but this was not a problem at all. This hotel has... I had wanted to stay at this hotel for a long time, primarily because of the location and past good reputation. Recent reviews have not been very complimentary, which gave me concerns. It was better than I expected. We had room 5 which was a good size. Although on the main road the noise was not intrusive and it was... More

Had the pleasure of spending a wonderful night there recently with my wife as part of a prize but certainly would now be very keen to go there again. The reception we got was second to none and the atmosphere throughout our time was excellent. We had our evening meal there and the chowder starter was one of the best I'd ever... We popped in to the Portaferry Hotel for lunch on a recent trip to Strangford Lough. We had not booked, but were shown immediately to a nice sunny table in front of the bar. Service was instant and efficient. I had the Dundrum steamed mussels which were the best I've had in years – the magic ingredient being saffron butter.... More

As a special treat, my family and I popped down to Portaferry for a coastal drive and decided to have an Afternoon Tea, as recommended by a family friend. The hotel is really nice and the staff were welcoming. We were seated in the dining room and enjoyed the lovely views of the Lough and we ordered are Afternoon Tea.... More

We have eaten at the Hotel every Easter for the last 15 years. Some years have been better than others but we have always enjoyed the experience. This year we booked a table for the Thursday after Easter and were looking forward to a pleasant evening. On arrival we were escorted into the bar area and seated at a small... More

I called into the Portaferry hotel with my elderly Mother 90years. I was greeted by a lovely lady on reception called Sandra. I explained that I would like to have afternoon tea for two but would not like to have it in the bar area. A table was set up for us by Sandra in the reception area, and she also... More
