Posada Herran is rather off the beaten path, in a quiet residential neighborhood. It's about a mile from the center of town and also the Altamira replica/museum. Most will want a car to get around.

Old stone house in Herran (which is still live village with farms and cows) with private parking. Santillana del Mar is cca 1.5 km through back streets and it is pleasant walk. I must say I was really glad to sleep in Herran, because except for tourists and staff serving them Santillana del Mar is dead open air museum. I...

top quality accommodation, top value, calm, and very friendly hosts. stayed one night during my 30 day way of st.james walk in early may and it was the best 'worth the money' entire trip. around ten minutes easy walk from santanilla del mar. around fifteen minutes walk from the altamira cave.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Posada Herran...a beautful stone building but with modern bathrooms and wifi. The off-season rate is 31 euros per night. This is unbelievably good value. The only problem is that it is a few kilometers out of town (on the road to the Altamira caves) making it a little dificult if you don't...
