We drove one and a half hours North from Nairobi on good roads, (A politician must live nearby!) and arrived just before the forest reserve gate closed at 5pm. Our two families and one set of grandparents filled two bungalows and a cottage and we were half board. The pool was deliciously cool and perfectly clear, fed by river water... More

This is an absolutely great place to stay to look for birds. The star attractions are the Hartlaub's Turaco and the Red-fronted Parrots. When I was there the parrots were nesting next to the restaurant.

Having read the reviews, including the terribly sad one, I was determined to see this place for myself. I find it hard to imagine why there's not a strong contingency of English visitors to this place - it's perfect for a stop between Amboseli and Samburu but it's a shame if visitors don't stay for longer - there's so much... What a beautiful location ! Set in a large clearing in the forest with views over the plains and up to Mt Kenya, this is a wonderful spot to relax. It is not luxury accomodation, but is comfortable and perfectly adequate. The food was fine and the service excellent, the owner and staff being very helpful. We climbed Mt Kenya... More

I was staying in Kenya for a couple months and used this lodge for 2 weekend getaways. It seems there is a lack of mid-price quality places to stay in Kenya but the Castle Forest Lodge fills this void. Full board resident for one was KSH 5,500 per night and cheaper if two or more are staying. It's in a... More

There were four of us aged 30s and 60s and our holiday was on a "safari and self-drive" basis. We were only able to spend one night here in the foothills of Mount Kenya as our return home was imminent but would definitely have stayed longer if we could have. Often used as a base for those tackling Mount Kenya,... More

Since the start of our posting in Kenya, we've travelled to the Castle Forest Lodge on several occasions and found it a refreshing break from citylife in Nairobi. The scenery is gorgeous, staff friendly, food great and prices very reasonable. Whilst exploring the forest certain precautions have to be taken but the staff members are more than equipped for that.... More

I visited this lodge with my wife, daughter, brother and sister in law. While a scenic location, any visitor should be aware of the risks. Our family was repeatedly approached by lodge staff as well as the lodge owner to take a guided walk in the surrounding forest to the lodge. We were also assured that the guided walks were... More

We stayed here one week, excellent service, excellent food! The bush hut on the mountain, must go and stay there! The surroundings and staff are great! Cottages are cosy, clean, don't expect a lot of luxury. You should go here, when you love nature and tranquility. Guided walks with guides who grew up in the forest is a great adventure.... More
