This is my second attempt to extoll the pluses of this wonderful hotel in Northern Thailand. My first try ran into a problem with a phrase of mine. . .actually a quotation from Mark Twain. . .which I chose to use to support my argument that Viang Yonok, while being 6th in value and 11th in service out of the... Hands down, the best food I had in northern Thailand. The chef is 72, the mother of Vassana, one of the owners, and her Thai food is brilliant. We were welcomed with a Thai yom, salad with toasted cashews. Can I please have the recipe? Although we were only at Viang Yonok for 24 hours, every meal, activity, sensation was... More

Viang Yonok absolutely deserves its No. 1 ranking & award. Ian & Vassana said they're not doing it for the money, and it shows, not just in the terrific value for this quality of accommodation, but their care for their guests, their staff and their pristine environment. Stayed 4 nights early Feb and were lucky to be the only guests... More

If you are looking for five star luxury, then pay megabucks and go elsewhere.  But if you want somewhere with personal with a P and service with an S, and outstanding value for money, then this little hotel is it.  This place is nothing fancy, just seven little cottages with a small pool, a little gym and an open air... Hi TouringPandAS, simpkinHelston and BeachSwaggie, Thank you so much for your reviews and we're happy you were happy. This is a beautiful, fascinating part of the country and it's great you were able to experience some it. Yes, shopping is not my thing, that's my better half's department. If you have a chance to re-visit, we'll show you some different... More

We stayed here for 5 nights before Christmas, and absolutely loved it. Beautiful location next to the lake (with glorious sunsets), very comfortable rooms and good facilities. In all a very pleasant, laid back place to be, so relaxing and comfortable. All the people there were so welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Ian and Vassana, the owners,... More

Overall, this is a good resort, but we were not fans. The rooms are clean, the location is good, but the owners and chef hover around the guests. Also, rooms are not very sound proof- you can hear complete conversations other people have outside while you are in your room (which probably means they can hear you, too). The amenities... More

Hi roundtheworld30, Thank you for your interesting review. Rather than respond to each of your comments, I think I will just say that we are a friendly, family run, small hotel, rather than an exclusive private resort. The fact that over 90% of our guests have given us a 5 star review and that we are rated the No.1 hotel... More

18 months ago we went to Viang Yonok for lunch whilst staying in the golden triangle. We found a peaceful relaxing hotel with excellent food in a beautiful area. This year we returned for 12 days and were sorry it was not longer. We were looked after so well we felt like one of the family. The owner Ian's knowledge... More

Can't say enough. We spent a wonderful 5 nights here and found a little paradise. You can do as much or as little as you wish. The gardens and location are beautiful, peaceful and relaxed and around the hotel you'll find some awesome walking & cycling tracks. We got on a bike (after several decades!) and with owner Ian's expert... More

I planned on 7 nights here but ended up staying 14! The lakeside setting is very tranquil, and a great place to relax. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the garden watching the sun setting over the lake each evening. The stand alone rooms are immaculate and very tastefully decorated in traditional Thai style, each with their own veranda overlooking the... More

it is a great hidden gem, we spent 3 nights here while visiting Golden Triangle. we love the tranquil setting, individual bungalow, warm personal service. since we were the only guest during our stay, we got to chat with the owner a lot. the mama of the owner is a good cook, you need to order your food one hour...
