All in all we had a great stay at this hotel. The staff were generally very helpful. The rooms were a little dirty, but nothing that a new carpet couldn't sort out. This hotel was advertised as a five star, but should really be compared to a four or three star in North America. They were trying very hard to... More

I stayed in this hotel as part of a large UN conference, and it turned out to be an absolutely marvellous experience. The check in took a little while, but the lobby is quite relaxed and spacious. This is a high rise right on the Minzu Dadao, in the heart of the Nanning business district, and minutes by cab from... More

The hotel is located is next to a lake and that is its biggest attraction. There are lovely grounds and walking paths around the hotel around the lake. I had great expectations from the food since every other Chinese city that I have stayed in, the food has been exceptional. Given that I didn't find the food of comparable quality... More

Good bits: staff now can speak some English. Good pool, right next to good park for walks. Public areas clean and tidy bad bits: room carpet filthy, breakfast poor- get early or its gone, not much for western tastes. Poor gym.

After arriving to the hotel at 9 pm from the airport, the hotel informed us our 2 room reservations were unavailable. We booked 1 room for 1 week and 1 room for 2 1/2 weeks. After some heated discussions, the clerk let us look at other rooms that "might be available" at higher prices than we had reserved. We found... More

My family and I stayed at the Wharton for one week of our adoption trip last month. It was all arranged by our travel agency so not our choice but everything worked out well there. The staff could speak English well enough at all times to help us and they were all courteous and helpful. They exchanged currency for us... More

I stay here repeatedly because it is 2 minutes walk to the fantastic South Lake walks and parks(really beautiful)and park...fabulous after work. This hotel is getting better.! Refurbished, staff speak more English(still some problems) and less smoking. The food is not great ( WARNING! stay clear of the western menu-"fruit salad" came with mayonaise!!!)The lower level chinese food hall is... More

If you DO NOT care for room temperatures unchangeably above 25 Celsius, dark rooms with small windows, slow internet, shutt-down aircons in Feb, a 'suite' with clean floors, hygenically prepared food (4 out of 7 got ill for days while only staying and eating in the 2 hotel restaurants, english understanding (!) roomservice, any facility for small children (i.e. for... An international hotel with a chinese edge. getting by in other languages can be a slow job, but people are helpful and the rooms are nice and clean. The hotel had lots of western couples looking to adopt chinese babies when I was there, everyone was treated well. The restaurants left a bit to be desired, the main buffet was... More

Nanning is one of the cleanest provincial capitals in China (no industry) and the hotels also generally better value. The Guangxi Wharton was suprisingly relaxed and comfortable - good large swimming pool, better than average English skills. Rooms on the 6th/7th floor showed signs of humidity causing deterioration (eg spotty carpets) but the business rooms on the 17th floor are... More
