While in Tanzania, we stayed in three Sopa lodges, including Ngorongoro Sopa. The lodge is perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and all rooms overlook the crater. To adequately evaluate the level of luxury these Sopa lodges provide, please keep in mind that you are in the middle of the crater highlands of Tanzania. These lodges provide reliable... More

Very well poitioned lodge on the edge of the Crater. Fantastic views from the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good considering the isolated location, Always make allowances for minor problems: you are in the middle of Africa. Try for a very early start to descend into the crater..leaving before 6am is good. We... More

We have recently returned from a trip to Kenya and Tanzania including a 12-day safari during which we stayed in a number of different lodges including Sopa and Serena Lodges. We were nervous about one particular booking - being the 2 night stay at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, in part because the description of it given in the Fodor safari... More

We did enjoy the Sopa Lodge- it is in fairly good condition compared to other African hotels we stayed at. The staff is very friendly, and the hotel is pretty. There is a nice pool, and the view from the lawn of the crater cannot be beat- one of the best views in the world I would say. We had... More

This hotel is about 10-15 years old, and while it's showing its age, still delivers a decent experience. It's one of about 8 hotels owned by a chain. There are over 100+ rooms, so it can get crowded, especially in the dining room... which will remind you of a Carnival Cruise. But the staff is friendly and helpful, and you'll... More

We arrived in the late afternoon and enjoyed a sunset, but this large hotel is a relatively dark, gloomy place made palatable by its location right on an almost exclusive access road to the N'gorogoro crater. It can save almost 30 minutes on the trip into and out of the crater. The dining room was dark and overcrowded with tables... More

Just one night spent here in our lengthy Northern Tanzanian Odyssey. The lodge is the only property on the Eastern side of the Ngorongoro Crater and affords excellent views down from many places. Our room had a good view but sadly the weather was not that nice during our stay so all we really saw was a mist! It was... More

Very nice place ! The lobby and bar, like the pool area, have a free view of the crater. Our spacious room also with free view. Service fine. More

We had quite a few problems with this place and we also had high expectations coming in. No doubt, the view from the lobby onto the crater was amazing; however: -we asked for a room with a good view and got one with hundreds of trees blocking the view -we asked for another room asking for a better view and... After about a half's day game drive from the Southern Serengeti, we ascended to the Ngorongoro highlands for our last and final night of our safari. We were headed to the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, part of a chain of specialty lodges catering to the safari tourists. It was surprisingly far from most of the lodges. In fact, it is in... More
