Stayed as a couple for only one night, but greatly enjoyed it. Garden was relaxing, food was (typically in Tanzania) great and people friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and quite comfortable. Toilets and shower were clean. There is a certain old world vibe to this place which we found charming - I was reminded of Hemingway for some reason...... More

this is an old hotel, but is well kept, with clean rooms, good service, decent food and a beautiful garden, all at a reasonable price. One of the best value vor money in a month's trip across East and Southern Africa. Even if one does not aim at the Kilimanjaro top, there are interesting walks in thenearby forest one the... More

We stayed in Marangu Hotel when we climbed Kilimanjaro in September last year (2011). We loved the surroundings and the service in the hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We are especially grateful to our crew: Eliaon (guide); Josephat (guide assistent); Julias (cook) and our porters: Fukahini, Paul and Iddi. They've been a great help and we wouldn't have... More

We climbed Kili in September and stayed at the hotel before and after. The advice and pre-climb checks were all excellent. We had so much confidence in attempting such a tricky feat with the thorough advice and guides provided. I knew we were in safe hands with the guides, but was also good to get that extra nudge to do... More

After using a couple of different local companies to support our Mt Kilimanjaro climbs and not being comfortable with their honesty or how they treated their porters, we found Marangu Hotel - and have been delighted with them every year. Their communication is honest and straightforward, their property is excellent, and most importantly their trekking staff are well trained and... More

The Hotel organized our trek to Kilimanjaro perfectly although we took a rather unusual route through the Umbwe gate. Guides, porters, equipment, briefing - all perfect! This obviously was the most important criteria for us. Also the accommodation itself is quite good, with bathrooms well above the East African standard of average priced hotels. The Management Team was always helpful... More

We chose this hotel because it's close the start of our 1 day walk to the first camp on the Killi. With a family of kids we wanted to have a feel about the surroundings of this mountain but also the hotel where a lot of travellers start their walk to the top. The hotel is located in a nice... More

I am not an avid outdoor enthusiast, more like a passionate couch geek. I am fairly active, but am not an athlete. I also have asthma, hypoglycemia, and a broken back. I agreed to climb the mountain to please my husband. This is a Terrible reason. The hotel could not have been better. It is not the Ritz; it has what... More

We organised a kilimanjaro trek through an Australian booking agency that was run by the Marangu Hotel. The trip was very well organised, guides & porters were fantastic. As 3 females heading off into the jungle with 15 blokes, you might get a little nervous, however there was absolutely no need to worry... about anything! The eldest in our group... More

We camped in the grounds of this hotel for 5USD a night although you can upgrade to a room for not much more! It was the first campsite / hotel that we had stayed in on our trip with hot water so it gets a good review for that alone! I am told this is the best place to book... More
