Chole Mjini is a little piece of tree house paradise. We spent five glorious days here in March 2012 and could not recommend it more to the intrepid travellers amongst you. The accommodation and general feel is simple but stylish, hospitality and hosting is relaxed, friendly and efficient; striking the perfect balance between ensuring you have everything you could ever... Chole Mjini is the place I thought only existed in my dreams. Sleeping in the trees of a jungle island paradise would have been enough but the finer details of Chole Mjini are what will inhabit my dreams now. The sounds-hermit crab shells clunking as they fall off the coral walls that line the paths, birdsongs like bouncing marbles, bats... More

Sleeping in a tree house over the mangrove swamps, diving in pristine tropical waters, sailing a dhow. Sound like I could be writing the brochure, and it's all true and more. Go swimming with whale sharks, snorkel over colourful coral etc. Also true: it's extremely hot and humid, and there is no air conditioning, because the is as green and... More

My husband, our 11 year old daughter and I stayed at Chole Mjini for 7 nights in January 2012 after a week at a luxury resort in Zanzibar. Arriving at Mafia airport we knew this was going to be very different to all the holidays we have had. This is not the place if you do not have a sense... More

I agree with all the other reviewers. Magical place- feels like Jurassic park meets Indiana Jones amongst the huge baobab tree and ruins. Bags more character than the other lodges.Ideally place for coral gardens. Lyndsey sorted out scuba sessions, whale sharks on the west side, our flights form Dar and to Zanzibar, flasks of tea brought up on a rope... More

We have just returned from an amazing trip to Chole Mjini. We stayed with Lyndsey and her staff for 3 nights in tree house number tatu. What a great experience! You can see all the effort which is put in to make feel guest at home. We met so many incredible interesting people - guests and staff alike. We just... More

I have nothing but rave reviews. It's an adventure getting there, yet a breeze. The accommodation is everyones childhood fantasy come to life. The hospitality was first class (Thanks Lyndsey, you were amazing). The dining locations were like a scene from a movie set and the food delicious. AND THEN WE GOT TO SWIM WITH WHALE SHARKS. The only problem... More

I loved this place, the staff were all so welcoming, friendly, gentle, peaceful and in all this interested and interesting. Please if you go make sure you tour the local village, it is so rewarding. This is a different place, in the best possible of ways, be with the group that are there or on your own, no one cares... More

Chole Mjini, unique, magical and unlike anywhere in the world - truly a wonderful experience with open tree houses, being woken up/ lulled to sleep to birdsong and the call to prayer, open air showers and awe inspiring scenery both above and below water. Food was simply cooked, super fresh - without class- sea-food and (I must mention the donuts!!!)... More

Unique, stunning, beautiful, quirky and fun. My second visit to Chole Mjini was more than equal to the first. The new management will charm your socks off, who wears socks here anyway! Lyndsey is the true Tanzanite of Chole. Snorkeling was to die for.....like swimming in a giant fish bowl. I kept looking for Nemo.....For the seasoned traveler looking for peace,... More
