All that one would expect from a British Country House hotel in the middle of the Brecon Beacon's National Park. Nothing flashy, just good traditional standards. Imagine sinking into a chair in front of a crackling log fire after a day out in the fresh air with a good book in one hand and drink in the other. Just perfect. more

Christmas at Gliffaes 2009 ........ On Christmas Eve the boiler broke down and the chimney went up in smoke! and this on the day there was a blizzard! Now this of course wasn't entirely their fault but it did indicate a lack of routine maintenance which was reflected in the less than fresh decor in the public rooms which has... more

This was our second visit to Gliffaes. It is in a wonderful location above the River Usk with fabulous views in every direction. The rooms are beautifully and stylishly decorated - we had a very civilised bathroom. The food is excellent and the wine choice wide. Delicious breakfasts and the service is very good as well. Well positioned for exploring... more

Gliffaes is a gem. Set in the most beautiful gardens with stunning walks on your doorstep. Food is delicious. Atmosphere is British hospitality at its best, understated elegance without being over the top. We had room 3 and I promise you to wake up in the morning to those views - you won't find a better room with a view.... more

We initially had problems finding the hotel, out a narrow lane well outside of the town. But what a spectacular place! Beautiful gardens, on a bluff overlooking the river. We stayed two nights while sightseeing in the Brecon area, and we couldn't have picked a better location. The hotel is staffed mostly by younger people, who were bright, friendly and... more

My wife and i have stayed twice at Gliffaes which provides a comfortable country house hotel experience in attractive grounds in a scenic setting. The food is generally of a high standard with only the odd lapse. There is plenty of space to relax in two lounges and the conservatory. There is also an agreeable bar area. Drinks prices are... more

I have been organising trips with a group of friends to South Wales for more than a decade, initially we stayed in farm cottages, but for the last six years we've stayed at Gliffaes. This hotel truly is a hidden gem, the staff are professional but discrete allowing you to enjoy the hotels open log fires in the sitting room... more

Recently returned from a 2 night mid-week break at the Gliffaes Hotel. We booked the break to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and it really couldn’t have been better. The hotel is a large country house on the bank of the River Usk, the location is really quite spectacular, also very quiet and remote. We were in room 9, which... more

This hotel is very tranquil and remote, it is not on a main route and the sign could be hard to spot, however our Sat-Nav found it no problem. There are beautiful pathways and walkways right around the grounds and down to the River Usk, I'm not a big walker at all but the scenery is well worth a look.... more
