My wife and I visited lyme again in may and as usual we experienced a high standard at the royal lion hotel. We had room 32 which has a fantastic view over the town , towards golden cap and also towards the sea. The staff were faultless and we honestly would struggle to come up with a negative. Fantastic!

We were nicely welcomed upon our arrival and were helped with our luggage as there is no lift. The 'Traditional' twin bedded room was pleasant with a large & very clean bathroom. The hotel is centrally located near the Esplanade and amenities. We had a lovely full English breakfast with pleasant and efficient service.

Had a three night stay here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was comfortable and spacious and clean. Breakfasts were fine although the atmosphere was perhaps a little stuffy in the upper room. Overall interesting place to stay and the staff were very helpful with suggestions of other places to visit in the area e.g. Beer. We did not have... More

Hotel and staff were great but please sort out your wifi. Both nights I stayed I was told that the wifi was not compatible with Apple - one of the bar staff told me it was because "we don't have 3G in this country". Yes the area is the Jurassic Coast and yes you were celebrating your Fossil Fair and... More

This was our first visit to Lyme Regis. We stayed 2 nights in a superior balcony room. Amazing view over the rooftops to the sea, good decor, very clean. We used the Inn to eat on our first night and had good quality 'pub grub', and good local beer. Breakfast was fab, good choice of cooked food as well as... More

I visited this hotel in February with my partner and I have only good things to say! We like Lyme Regis. It is a friendly, pleasant town with nice views and it is very dog friendly (even the Costa Coffee here lets dogs inside) and we try to get two or three breaks here a year with our Border Terrier. We normally book an apartment or cottage but this time we tried the dog friendly Royal Lion.... More

We stayed here for a couple of nights and really enjoyed ourselves, as we made good use of the small swimming pool and games room (we played table tennis). Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At the heart of the idyllic town of Lyme Regis, 'the Pearl of Dorset', is the Royal Lion Hotel, a stunning haven located in the middle of the High Street, with its own private car park. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the West Dorset border, part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, it is renowned for its fascinating past, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the unique fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, and for being the central location of the novel and the 1981 film, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Situated less than 100 metres from the sea, the Royal Lion Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the locale. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the Hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with new additions of its own swimming pool and other facilities. Wi-Fi, although not available in the bedrooms, is available to guests in several areas of the hotel. Privately owned and managed, the Royal Lion Hotel has gained an enviable reputation for its friendly service, world class food and wine and leisure offerings. ... more   less
