Went for dinner with friends in January. Food was poor in the extreme, my wife's "fish & chips" was extraordinarily expensive and the fish had been re-cooked. Complained but that didn't improve the meal. 500% markup on wine is out of order. Definitely one to miss. More

Good location, friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable bed, a real nice pub, not so bad. But,,, the internet is very bad, it constantly makes you re log in just to stay connected, and signal strength, at least in my room, was poor. Also, avoid my room #32 or any rooms facing the main road, the car noise will be well... More

Booked direct with hotel and was offered Internet rates. Hotel easy to find, free parking immediately adjacent. Receptionist efficient but no personality so no welcome. Passing assistant manager offered to carry bags to room. Room overlooking courtyard, quiet, well furnished and clean but despite knowing we were coming the heating had not been turned on, the room took a full half... More

I do wish guests would at least let us know if things were not to their liking or wrong whilst staying with us, so we have an opportunity to correct them and thus improve their stay. My over riding aim is to have happy guests that want to return. We try so hard to get things right, but at times... More

Absolutely delightful Hotel. Comfortable, clean, quaint rooms. Very reasonably priced indeed. There is such a feeling of history about the hotel that it makes it that more special. The food is excellent and the staff very polite, pleasant and helpful. A group of us travelled to the UK from all over Europe for meetings and we stayed for one night... More

Whenever I travel back to the UK to see my family in Hungerford I always stay here. The rooms and service are excellent. The hotel has so much history too. The management have renovated the property perfectly and I hope they continue to be successful to maintain the high standards. More

I have just been to a business event hosted at The Bear in Hungerford. There was ample parking, the breakfast although served to over 40 people, was fresh, delicious and served with discretion and courtesy. The event was a success on my part, and judging by the relaxed and exciting atmosphere of the rest of the room - I would... More

After reading mixed reviews for hotel, found a good DBB deal for 2 nights. Looked at website, rooms and menus on line and all looked good with separate menus for bar and restaurant, so went ahead with booking. We had no offer of dinner given to us so had to email requesting for a dinner reservation to be made. Was... More

I am again disappointed that this guest as far as I know, did,not raised any of these issues when they were staying with us,as I do take all coments seriously and can only apologise and say I will try harder. I would just say in my defence however, that we do not have two rossettes for our food and neither... More

We went to the Bear for diner with some friends and ate in the fine dining restaurant, opposed to the bar restaurant. On arrival the bar manageress checked our booking and took our drinks orders while we waited. We waited over 20 minutes for our drinks and even then these had to be prompted by our friends when they arrived.... More

I am sorry taht these guests didn't enjoy their experience at The Bear last saturday night which upsets me greatly, as the whole team trys so hard. We were very busy last saturday serving almost 70 meals mostly in the bar, all in about 2hrs and all but a handful had actually booked the rest just simply walked in. I'am... More

On leaving the hotel the CD in my car happened to play Alison Moyet's Invisible. Never has a song been more appropriate. I booked one night in a Superior Double on a Dinner Bed & Breakfast Rate at a total price, excluding drinks of £170.00. On Arrival the receptionist told my wife and I that the restaurant was fully booked... More

We try so hard to get things right all the time, but humans do make mistakes and sometimes the weekest member of the team sometimes lets the others down. Guests booking on DBB should always have their table booked in the restaurant diary at the time of booking their room and corridors should be walked regularly by both the duty... More

The pricey 'ploughmans salad' I paid £11.95 for came on a small plate with miniscule salad, quarter of an apple some pickle and the smallest amount of Stilton cheese I had ever seen hidden under the little green leaves. One small brown roll and no butter. It all looked tired and uninspirational. We waited over half an hour for our... More

If I have the right day that this cuctomer visited the hotel, we were very busy and if the kitchen made the dish incorrectly I am very sorry; Likewise, if the member of staff came accross badly in trying to find out what was wrong with this dish, as we generally want to know when we get things wrong, again...
