Great hostel. Everyone here is relaxed and unhurried. All of the beds and bedding are clean, fresh and comfortable. This place is old with creaky floors, tall ceilings and is full of old world charm. If you tend to be a whiner or a high maintenance person, this may not be the place for you. If you are relaxed and... More

Stayed in hostel with some friends over a holiday weekend. Second time staying in the hostel & found it great value as breakfast is included with pretty much all you can eat bread & porridge plus boiled eggs on some days. Rooms are ok and the showers are hit and miss but given the low cost can't complain. We cooked... More

The location is good for connemara depending whay your plans are. if you have to stay in letterfrack try and find somewhere else to stay. the place is dirty. The table you eat on has food in the cracks of the old table, really terrible. The property is poorly mantained. The showers don,t work properly. Only one working at right... More

Year after year I come back here as a base for exploring Connemara's hills ; I am saddened to see some of the hostile comments about Stephen who runs the Hostel ; His efforts are amazing in keeping the food good , the fires lit and he creating a wonderful funky atmosphere ; When busy in the kitchen , he... This place is one of the last truly intact period buildings . It was the place of residence of the founders of the village ( Letterfrack) the Ellis family. Much of the original interior is intact giving this hostel a superb old world feel , probably the most relaxing hostel I have ever stayed in with open fires and old... More

The last time I stayed here was some ten years ago! I won't leave it quite that long again! Initially the plan was to stay for 2 nights but I ended up staying for six relaxing nights. It was exactly what I was looking for. The main living room has a nice warm energy with the lodgers cosying up in... More

We were so happy to spend one night here and immediately promised ourselves a longer stay one day. The atmosphere was perfect, the owners (and dog) friendly, the breakfast delicious (homebaked bread!), and the clientele the sort that end up in a funky hostel a little off the beaten path... It was simply perfect.

I have stayed a few times at The Old Monastery Hostel! I love it, it's a great place to relax and stay in. I was made to feel very welcome whenever I stayed over, by Stephen, the owner - and I would highly recommend the hostel to anyone wanting to stay around Letterfrack. The breakfast at the hostel is beautiful... More

Nice place for a hostel but they had taken in a large group of French teenagers and the entire hostel had one (1!) functioning shower and three toilets. In addition, there's a couch in the boathroom and a mock fireplace meaning that the bathroom gets used by other guests as a place to chill out and get warm - right... More
