My new husband and I were in Costa Rica for our honeymoon, and had reservations in Pavones (Panama border) the following day. We needed to find a place to stay for one night that would break our 6hr drive, after some research we found this place and made a reservation. We pull up around 830pm, hungry and tired. Lise, Rolf... More

I knew this place would be amazing after chatting with Lise from a payphone, she was so nice. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from her and her husband Rolf. They helped us settle in, made sure we had everything we needed and then left us to ourselves. It was the perfect balance. The rooms were... More

We stayed at El Bosque only for two days and three nights. We would have liked to stay more! Lise and Rolf are very welcoming people and their place is just perfect. It is located in the middle of the nature with great sceneries all around and numbers of humming birds. Lise offered to cook for us and we were... More

Thank you for your response. We are sorry that your birding was not successful. It takes a lot of time and patience to bird watch and it is a good idea to have a guide because they are far better at spotting the birds than the average people. We can arrange for guides with advance notice. Pura Vida. More

The owners Rolf and Lise are very nice people. The cabin was clean and spacious. The property is well kept, and there is a ver nice restaurant only one kilometer down the road. The noise of the truck engine brakes from the highway below drownded out the chirping birds now and then, but it did not bother us as we're... More

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, the weather was cooler than usual when these guest were here and the pool "IS HEATED" everyday to a maximum of 80F or 28C. Most guests, actually, find it quite refreshing. The noise of the trucks has diminished by 75% in the last 2 years since the trucks prefer travelling the coastal road since... More

This place was amazing. The owners were eager to share tips about the surrounding area, and have worked very hard the past 10 years to attract many species of birds back to the area. The grounds are gorgeous and lush with manicured flowers and paths. The entire place is built on the side of a mountain and overlooking the valley.... More

The owners Rolf and Lise do there utmost to make you feel at home. The cabins are very nice. We liked the breakfast very much. At some evenings we had homemade dinner. Lise is a very good cook, but we think it is a bit overpriced. There are some nice trails in their own little piece of jungle. If you... More

We feel that our price for food is not overpriced considering that the meal is prepared fresh, nothing is prepared ahead of time or frozen. The salad if freshly picked from our garden. The meals are $25.00 each. This includes a large salad (with many veggies) to begin the meal, a main course of fish, meat, or poultry with 2... More

This small and hidden place is a real gem! If you're looking for personal service, rustic but very nice made cabins, a spectacular setting and lots of nature, this is the place to spend some nights. The entrance is kind of difficult to find so make sure you keep an eye out for KM 118 on the route over the... More

Getting dark w/ the clouds setting in , so we GPS to this wonderful property. Lisa and Rolf were relaxing in the pool when we arrived , but we were warmly greeted and picked out the cabin we wanted for the night. We could only stay one night due to reservations in San Jose. This is a hidden gem ,... More

This is one of our absolute favorite places in Costa Rica. It is peaceful and beautiful, and we have not found any other place that is even comparable as it comes to birdwatching. Truly stunning! And Rolf and Lise are great hosts that make you feel very much at home. We will be back -- and will tell any friends... More

The cool weather and beautiful views were the best thing for me. The hummingbirds were nonstop entertainment. The owners were great and fun without being in our face.I also enjoyed the hiking early morning to the top of the mountain and watching the amazing clouds below. We took the bus from San Jose. It was able to drop us a... More
