We stumbled on Cave Creek Ranch when another place we were hoping to stay couldn't be sure they would be open, and and that turned out to be serendipitous. This is a peaceful place just outside the very small community of Portal, off the main road, and at the foot of beautiful Cave Creek Canyon. Owner Reed Peters keeps feeders... More

We spent three days at Cave Creek Lodge in the Woodland Cottage. The cottage is right on the creek, quiet and private with spectacular views of Cave Creek Canyon between the shade of the trees. There is no cell phone service here but there is WiFi on the office porch where you can watch the hummingbirds at the many feeders... More

My husband and I spent three nights at Cave Creek Ranch in the remote village of Portal, Arizona. We are birders and had stayed there 30 years ago. Reed Peters, the owner and manager, has improved the property and refurbished the lodgings, which consist of assorted rooms and cottages. We were given the large Stone Cottage for the price of... We visited the Cave Creek Ranch to visit my step-daughter while she was conducting some of her graduate research at the nearby research station. The Ranch is terrific. If you're looking for luxury, forget it--but the accommodations are scrupulously clean and more than adequate for a time away from "regular civilization." In fact, cell phones don't work there--all the better... More

I've stayed at Cave Creek Ranch both with birding friends and with my non-birding spouse and we've stayed there in August at the height of the hummingbird season and at Christmas time. The best local birding may be on the porch of the office and the main house. Along with lots of birds are coati, fox, javelinas, deer, and skunk... More

We were actually there in August of 2009 - I hope this is not too out of date. Reid does such a nice job - very friendly, enthusiastic. Rooms are spacious, plain, but comfortable. Wonderful area. We were visited by a coatimundi on our last morning there. Saw some deer as well. Would go back in a heartbeat.

My husband, daughter (9 yo), mother-in-law and I stayed at Cave Creek Ranch for 4 nights in April. This was our first trip to Southeast Arizona and we loved Cave Creek Ranch. Our trip was primarily focused on birding and we were not disappointed! We rented the Stone Cottage and found it charming and very comfortable. The porch was a... More

We stayed at Cave Creek while vacationing at Hideout Ranch (www.hideoutranch.com, which was beyond fabulous too!). The stone cottage was clean and adorable! Most of the visitors to Cave Creek were birders and hikers. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and even a fireplace. Who could ask for more! The views were spectacular! Thanks Cave Creek!

What a beautiful place! For nature/bird lovers, it is the best. The room where we stayed is near Cave Creek and we could hear it babbling during the night and watch it flow by from our patio during the day. There are great hikes near by into the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains. And if you enjoy birds, this is the place.... More

We stayed three days at Cave Creek Ranch. This lovely place is NOT for the person who demands perfection in architecture, bright lights, big city things to do. Don't bring your RV, either. For the birder, the hiker or just a quiet place in a remote corner of Arizona, it's perfect. I've been birding for thirty years and bagged seven... More

Hello, thank you for reviewing your stay at Cave Creek Ranch. I had a couple of updates and clarifications which might help a potential guest as he or she decides where to stay. The floor is now level in Apt 4, where you stayed. We removed the concrete slab this summer, which had cracked, poured a new one, and have... More
