Built less than a decade ago, Xelena has spacious and pleasant rooms, with appealing vistas of Lago Argentino, as well as a medium size heated in-out pool and hourly minibus transfer service to/from the center of El Calafate. We stayed in april and the air temperature outside was 22 celcius yet they felt the need to pump up the heating in the hotel to well beyond that. We staid for eight days at Xelena hotel, in a luxe suite, bedroom and sitting room. Very friendly staff, a fine restaurant, very good loungebar and clean all over the place. Xelena is a 30 minutes walk from the centretown.

The room was comfortable, with a great view of the lake. It's located on the edge of town, which is actually nice---you are the last people to be picked up for the tours, so you are not waiting for the transportation, and you are away from the center of the town, which I found to be a little bit too... We have had two fabulous meals at the hotel's restaurant. The dishes were very inventive with well balanced ingredients and most of all tasty, well prepared and satisfyingly light. It was a welcome change from the standard issue found in El Calafate and for that matter in Buenos Aires. Congratulation to the chef and the attentive staff.

This hotel has some bright spots - amazing view, nice indoor/outdoor pool - BUT it is a long walk from the center of El Calafate, the shuttle operations are not very convenient, and the rooms are dated. Try El Mirador or other hotels in town for a better value.

we spent 3 nights in this hotel, which is not located in the center of el calafate but has a marvellous view of the lago argentino. further, the hotel provides guests with a very convenient shuttle service to town, so being a bit further out wasn't a problem at all. rooms are nice but I agree with other reviewers that...
