I stayed at the backpackers and the staff was very friendly and the location was great. The rooms were clean but very basic. Bathroom was clean too but general condition was in a bad state. In the time since your stay(I'm not sure when it was), we have re-done our bathrooms. Ikhaya is a workmanlike spot to crash in Stellenbosch. Not great. But decent. The front of the house is basically a small bar / internet cafe, complete with chain smokers, alcoholics, and hangers on, 24/7. I stayed there with my dad, we had such a nice time. Lovely balcony with a view on Stellenbosch. Tasty and cheap breakfast downstairs in the lounge area. Perfectly clean room. But my highlight would be the staff which made a perfect experience!

Having stayed in more than a few backpacker lodges in the Cape Town area, I found Ikhaya to be unique in more than a few different ways. The first would be in the lobby, which also has a small but stocked bar, TV's which are constantly showing the latest soccer, rugby, cricket or Formula One event, and a useful internet... More
