Fantastic place to stay. Just outside Knysna with the 14 suites set into the trees. We had a suite in the upper camp with jacuzzi on balcony and walk in shower as well. Food is superb - 6 course meal. Only criticism is that there is too much and it would have been nice to be givena 3 course alternative... more

The suites are truly amazing but I'm not sure phantom lives up to the magic claim. From our room we could hear the roar of the N2 and didn't see any monkies. We were told we didn't have to book the restaurants but couldn't get into chutzpah on arrival. Having said that the meal we ended up having in Boma... more

Never saw a place like this! We enjoyed very much: the view on the lagoon, the incredible bathroom, the breakfast (pay attention to the baboons), the dinner, and..... It was more expensive than the other lodges we had during our 2 1/2 week trip in South Africa, but is was it absolutely worth. Do not want to miss! more

My only complaint about Phantom Forest is that I wasn't prepared for how long the drive is from Cape Town. Once there though it was magical. The treatments at the body boma are a must. The food at the Boma is honestly some of the best food I have ever eaten. A six course feast of local delicacies. There is... more

An expensive but unique experience. You park at the lower level and are taken up and away high into the tree line. Lodges are at different levels but go for the Upper Camp. Ours was called Arum and had breathtaking views and was not overlooked. Glass walls give a great outdoor feel. The terrace had its own great outdoor sunken... more

My wife and I stayed at the Phantom Forest Eco Reserve for two nights during our "Garden Route Tour" recently. It is a very unusual resort, but once you get acclaimated, it is truly a remarkable experience. The staff and food were by far the best parts of our experience. Dinner at Chutspah is something not to be missed! The... more

We have just returned from South Africa and during our holiday stayed in 10 different accommodations. This was by far the most expensive but unfortunately not the best, in fact to be honest quite disappointing. First observation were the staff, not friendly at all, too businesslike almost bordering on pompous. It is a lovely place but the food wasn't excellent... more

Phantom Forest can only be described as lush. A 3 day surprise stay tagged onto the end of our honeymoon, this place is relaxation in nature at its best. The Classic Tree Suite rooms can only be described as a treehouse perched on stilts amongst the trees. The bathroom has a floor to ceiling window giving the feeling of showering... more

Lodge with private huts build on poles in the middle of the forest. Luxury rooms with extraordinary bathroom with forest view. We were awakened by the vervet monkeys jumping on our roof and spectacular birds singing. There is some noise from the N2 highway, which is under construction. But the place in the middle of the forest is so charming,... more

This "eco lodge resort" is perfect for a relaxing couple of days. Perched on the side a a hill overlooking Knysna lagoon the wooden cottages may be eco friendly but are also luxurious and private. Bathroom and showers with open windows to the world, but no possibility of anyone looking in add to the attrcativeness of the location. Good food in... more
