I stayed at Fairview 8 years ago for business, and it was lovely to stay there again after so many years, and find that it still offers the same service and comforts it did before. Lovely friendly people are just an added bonus

The gardens are stunning, the service was very friendly, we found the room a bit cramped and although in a separate annexe still had he feeling that we were in a guesthouse. Would be great / for the business traveller, but not for a leisure get away / romantic weekend.

You are right - my annex is geared toward the business travelers. It sounds as if you are a bit disappointed that you did not stay in one of the spacious ( and romantic!) inside rooms - I hope you understand that I could not offer you an inside room because of the little dog? In the end he was... More

On arrival immediately had a swim in their delightful pool. House surrounded by a beautiful and restful garden. Rooms are fine ... Didn't like the computer monitor on the desk doubling as a TV though - room needs a proper TV. Nice touch was the iron and ironing board in the room - hate having to always ask for one.... More

Because I feel televisions are so obtrusive in the setting of the historic home, I always opt for the smaller screens, so I'm afraid there is no chance that my brand new Samsung LED flat screen television will be replaced just because it resembles a computer monitor. Sorry! Next time you'll have to watch on the big television in the... More

We (5 people) stayed 4 weeks at the fairview. Everything was perfect, the lovely rooms, the breakfast, the garden and especially the hosts! We were sad that we have to leave and go back to Germany! We would come back at any times!!!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Fairview after a long solo drive from Port Elizabeth. The owner Philda was so welcoming it felt as if I was staying with long time friends. The minute I arrived she took me on a tour of the beautifully restored homestead. They were actually not taking in guests as there was a... More

But it is a little far out from the centre of the town. I live in the western cape and george is good for business maters, shopping for things you do not vind in the smaller dorpies and also for medical maters. This was too far out fore. I was told that there is very good and at good prices... More

I do not know which spot in George 'Karldieboer' considers central, but we are less than 4 km from the Garden Route Mall on the Eastern entrance to town and about 5km from the Virgin Active gym on the Western entrance to George ;less than 3km from York Street. More

A wedding anniversary was made extra special by our stay in this beautiful, historic homestead filled with art and antiques and the feel of yesteryear. The hostess is warm and welcoming, the breakfasts very satisfying, the garden quite beautiful and of course Juno the bullmastiff is very precious. Will definately make this a frequent stop in our travels.

We enjoyed our stay, but I think there better BnB's to stay at. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. Our bathroom was minute! I did not think after Paris I would be able to find a smaller bathroom- until now. Breakfast was good.

When we did the restoration on this historic homestead we chose to stay true to the authenticity of the structure and employed the services of an architect specializing in the restoration of historic homes. Of course, unlike with modern homes, when Fairview was built (1864) there were no bathrooms inside the houses at all. The 'minute' bathroom you refer to... More

This is now my third stay here and I would stay at no other B&B in the George area. The welcome from your host and their knowledge of the local area would be enough. Add to this the ambiance of the rooms plus the wonderful breakfasts you will have are all above 4****. Not to mention the Gardens which are... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Today this George landmark property, dating back to 1864, has been sympathetically restored and is a Boutique B&B targeting garden enthusiasts and people with an appreciation for history and heritage. Philda is responsible for the running of the Guest House – assisted by Elize (who can also speak German, Dutch and French) and housekeepers, Eveline and Monica. Desmond is a gardener and plant collector – even when we lived on the edge of the Namib desert he had a container garden where the plants were fussed over and pampered to thrive under those harsh conditions. He works as a medical doctor and enjoys the physical aspect of gardening – joking that he’ll join the gym and start golf when he retires from gardening. We have a large kitchen garden – we even have a small orchard and keep our own chickens. Family rooms; off-street parking; wifi; Swimming pool; dinner by arrangement; Wheel Chair Access; selected DSTV channels on medium sized flat screen televisions. Do consider staying a few days: George is the hub of golf in the Garden Route with many of South Africa’s top courses within a 60km radius. We can organize a guided tour of the garden Route wine route, paragliding, bungee jumping, game drives to Bottelierskop Game Reserve and trips to the Seal Island and/or Shark cage diving in Mossel Bay... ... more   less
