This place was incredible!!! By far the best hostel in South Africa. Stephen and Wayne were really helpful and they make you feel like at home. Double bedrooms were very comfortables (500 ZAR), nice mattresses, and very big bathroom and shower. Also tried the family bedrooms and were great also, with 2 beds and 1 bunk bed (200 ZAR p/p)....

Recently I stayed at the Amber Tree Lodge for the second time and the second visit was still as excellent as the first one back in November 2010. Unfortunately we could only stay for two nights and had to move to another hostel for the last three nights of our Cape Town visit, but it can easily be understood why...

My stay at the Amber Tree Lodge was one for the ages--I have never enjoyed my experience at a hostel more. The employees at Amber Tree were incredibly friendly and hospitable--making suggestions and offering travel advice, lending us their blow dryer, booking a rental car, and even helping us change our flat tire. I can not say enough good things...

Beautiful room, with a view of Table Mountain, fantastic facilities, great location, nice kitchen, even a good coffee maker and very helpful and friendly staff. Overall superb hostel. We stayed for three nights (one night in a dorm, and 2 nights in a private double). We would have stayed longer but, unsurprisingly, they were fully booked and we very reluctantly had to find an alternative for our final nights in Cape Town.
The dorms contain the most comfortable bunk beds we have ever experienced. They were built to...

No I really mean it. I stayed in several backpackers here in Cape Town and I stayed in Amber Tree the last 6 days on my trip. Here you will find a very relaxed and layed back atmosphere which is actually very typical for Cape Town and perfect to get to the other backpackers.
Any worries about savety? Not here...

I stayed at Amber Tree...had a private ensuite room at the back...small window...no problem with that..500 rand per night...abit expensive for what it was...but the thing that bugs me about Backpacker Inns and Lodges in South Africa is that they demand a key deposit, 100 r in this case..but with all the cuffuffle leaving one generally forgets to ask for...

I've stayed in backpackers all over the world and this is literally the best one ever. Wayne and Steven are amazingly gracious hosts. The location is great. The accommodations are fantastic, super comfortable, feels very honey and not at all like a backpackers. This feels like a B&B not a hostel. The free and unlimited wifi is awesome, as is...
