My Hubby and I weere lucky to confirm 2 nights at the Hippo Hideaway a few wks back. We were pleasantly surprised that for the quoted price per night we were greated and treated with soo much care and respect. Cottage 1 is perfect for couples who would like to enjoy quite quality time. It does not open into to... More

My parents and my husband and I stayed here for three nights. The first night we arrived around 8:30 PM. I had called earlier in the day to let them know our arrival time and was assured that the security guard would have our key. Instead, he had no idea we were supposed to check in and we had to... My family and I spent 3 nights in 2 self catering "chalets". I would simply call them "rooms" as they are not independant units like "chalets" are meant to be and I was a tad disappointed when I got there. The enquiry/booking/checking in was a breeze. Candice & Fortunate, who I was emailing/speaking to over the phone, were very efficient... More

A bunch of friends stayed in one of the self-catering units. The kitchen was very well supplied, and it's easy to buy groceries from the Spar across the street. Unit was neat and comfortable except we had an invasion of flies into our bathroom that was kind of gross (though they didn't bite). Easy parking. Owner was very kind and... More

We stayed in a 2/1 self-catering unit for 3 people. The location is smack-dab in the middle of St. Lucia so you can walk to the restaurants, Spar and ATM across the street, crafts market, and the boat ramp. It's not even too far to walk to the beach. Follow the signs to the bayou, then cross the boardwalk to... More

Management obviously takes a lot of pride in this place, and the staff works very hard. It's clean, comfortable and in a great location. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see the hippos that previous reviews mentioned, because we were in one of the courtyard rooms at the opposite end of the property from the estuary.... Hippo Hideaway is self-catering and is conveniently situated across the road from Spar so it was quick to pop out and grab some food for a meal. The place was well maintained and clean and we had someone make up our room every morning. The boma is ideal for braaiing and the pool was welcome for all the hot days... More

Expected 4 star accomodation as desrcibed in brochures. DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR - although charge 4 star rates Fixtures and fittings are basic. "FULL AIRCONDITIONED" unit had one airconditioner in living area - had to keep bedroom doors open in hope of cooling bedrooms down. Stayed in Unit 5 which was tucked away in a corner near the maids quarters.... More

Hippo hideaway is an atmospheric self=catering property, with spacious units, close to a number of good restaurants which is at the edge of the St Lucia wetlands national park. Great facilities for children, and hippo watching tours up the river starting just up the road. Good atmosphere.

They have one bedroom and 2 bedroom self catering units. I got the 2 bedroom for the same price in the back with a garden and access to the river. The one bedroom was in front of the pool. You can’t see the river because is a natural reserve and they can’t cut the trees. But it has a pier... More
