I stayed here for 7 nights while attending a conference. Was I lucky! Downtown Durban is virtually a no-go area - very dangerous to walk out, both in the daytime and at night. Too many of our delegates got mugged and robbed. But, Mythai is at the top of Florida Road (about 15 minutes from the city), which has a host of cafes, restaurants and a pub. I felt quite safe and walked down the street every night without a worry. It is a really nice guesthouse. I stayed in a large room, large bed, big windows, beautiful ensuite bathroom. The breakfast was fantastic. They do evening meals for groups of people - Thai, of course - and I booked in a group of my colleagues for a meal. They said it was the best Thai meal they had ever had (the guy imports spices from Thailand). To get downtown, there is a bus stop just outside (2 Rand) or a taxi (60 Rand). Cost was 2,555 Rand for 7 nights. A bargain. I really do recommend it. more

The kitchen for guest breakfasts is in a separate building across the backyard pool (there is a front yard pool too), and this keeps the cooking smells from the rooms - mostly.
I'd give the place raves except that on two mornings "bad" (hormone-filled, from the pig not being castrated the full 6 weeks before butchering- it smells awful) bacon was being cooked - S Africans don't seem to mind this, as I found "bad" bacon in many...
