I stayed at Protea Willow Lake in Bloemfontein for 4 days and 3 nights. It has a very nice relaxed atmosphere. Yes, there is a zoo in the back and it has a few animals but not zebras or tigers, giraffes or anything I would consider 'exotic'. The hotel is well decorated and the staff is great. Isaac is AWESOME!... More

We stayed one night at the Protea Hotel Bloemfontein on our road trip from Joburg to the Western Cape. The big appeal of the hotel is that it is actually surrounded on three sides by zoo. It was a nice experience waking up with an elephant just outside our window! The hotel is clean and well maintained and the rooms... More

The hotel is nicely decorated. The rooms are small and almost no hanging space. Staff was friendly. Food was overpriced for what was offered. Missed a business centre. Had daily limit of free internet that was nice.

Stayed for one night en route from CT to Joburg. Reception staff were friendly and efficient. Restaurant is nice and airy and the food was quite good. Rooms are very small with no cupboard space. I had a huge bag with me from a long trip around SA, and ended up rather leaving it in the car and only taking... More

Stayed here will some colleagues en route to Lesotho. The hotel backs on to the Bloemfontein City Zoo so the views are great. You can literally have breakfast with elephants and zebras. The staff were really friendly, though I was somewhat taken aback when one waitress in the restaurant complained to me that I had not left her enough of... More

Stayed here for one night. The room is very similar in design to the Protea at Or Tambo airport--small, but well equipped. However, some things bothered me here that did not bother me at the airport hotel--there is no closet and very little space to hang anything. That is fine for a night at the airport, but maybe not so... More

The hotel is pretty good. At first we were booked into a room above the restaurant. That was very noisy and smelled of rancid oil. However, the friendly reception staff were very happy to move us to another wing. The staff were probably the best we've come across for a long time. The rooms were spatious and comfortable and the... More

Similar experience with other Proteas- nice decor, clean, easy to do laundry, get a meal, park, etc. My only complaint about this Protea is that the shower is inside the bedroom and there is no shower curtain. The design is beautiful but it might be a bit awkward if you were sharing a room with someone and wanted more privacy... More

I stayed at the Hotel for two nights. The staff was super friendly and kind. They helped you with all enquiries. The room was very neat and the bedding white and soft. We had a King size bed. The shower is in the room with a perspex dome and I did not like that at all. I rather like a... More
