When our flight to Petersburg was aborted, Alaska Airlines dumped us in Wrangell. Bruce was a lifesaver. He made two trips to the airport to pick up seven of us and take us to the lodge. Then he went out, got groceries, and made us a delicious dinner! The room was clean, cozy, and warm. The next morning he made... More

My husband and I recently stayed with Bruce and Dar because our previously planned lodging cancelled due to a death in the family. We really did not know what to expect, but we were very pleased. We were given a suite that was quite spacious. The bathroom was huge and had a whirlpool as well as a huge stall shower.... More

We stayed at The Old Sourdough Lodge on the edge of town. The Lodge is perfect---quiet, comfortable, clean, near enough to downtown to walk anywhere. We stayed in The Harding Suite---it was lovely, large, had a small frig, and had both a shower and a jacuzzi tub in the big bathroom. Breakfast was adequate: cereal, juice, toast, and excellent homemade... More

Fish on! Four friends and I made our second trip to Wrangell for the fishing derby in May 2010. We returned to the Harding's Alaskan Sourdough Lodge because of the value and the hospitality. Bruce and Darlene Harding know evyone on Wrangell Island so if you need something or a contact they know where to steer you. The five of... More

Our stay at the Sourdough Lodge was very pleasant. Bruce was a good host that made my wife and I feel at home. The room we had was comfortable and clean. The breakfasts included with the room were simple affairs with toast, cereal, and the typical offerings you find at many hotels and motels in the lower States. Although Bruce... More

The Alaskan Sourdough Lodge is not your ordinary hotel. It's a lodge with private rooms and private baths. The owners are long time Alaskans who are welcoming and will make you feel right at home. Dinner is served every night, which is something I really look forward to with each stay. The meal is usually fresh caught Alaskan salmon, halibut,... More

Lodge owners, Dar and Bruce Harding, are typical Alaskans: they'll do anything for you and want to share beautiful Alaska with you, but at first might seem a bit wary of visitors. They are some of the kindest folks that I've met in my 7 years living and traveling in Southeast Alaska. Bruce is the epitome of generous and grizzly... More

Even though we stayed in early September, it was "off season" at the Sourdough. We were the only guests and found Bruce to be gruff and unapproachable. The feel of the place was rather creepy, sort of reminded me of the movie "The Shining". The breakfast was the best part of our stay. He charged us $124.00US for a small... More

Trip Advisor " Sour Dude", yes, I take full responsibility, I was having a bad day. The 2010 season was extremely long, but that is still no excuse. We are a small family owned and operated business in Wrangell since 1984. We have worked extremely hard thru the years at providing our lodge guests with a warm friendly Southeast Alaska... More

The room we had was very clean. Bruce, the owner, was friendly and helpful but offered an unnecessary 'lecture' about picking us up after a tour, stating that if we were in NY we would have to take a cab. Of course, we were in Wrangell, AK and he was no more than 5 minutes away. More

There are few hotels B&B and lodges in Wrangell. This is one of the better places to stay but do not expect luxury. The place is located near the harbor and minutes from downtown. The city in the past was considered, "rough place" by John Muir, and it some ways it still has the quality. The hotel itself is run... More
