I picked my stay here due to the reasonably high rating on Tripadvisor. Please be wary of rankings. The 3 Star Grosvenor Hotel has undergone a substantial facelift over a year ago and its fair to say that this grand old dame from the late 1800’s will certainly be around for some time as a solid place to stay without... I wouldn't recommend the Grosvenor, except maybe for rugby or beer-drinking trips. The location is good and central and the rooms are clean. The women staff are very helpful. however room decor varies from tasteless to offensive. There is insufficient hot water for warm showers in the morning. Some rooms are very small. I will look for somewhere better to... More

Thank you for bringing the hot water issue to our attention. For years, we have been intensely looking for a sustainable solution. Through EECA (Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority), we were introduced heat pump hot water system, which uses heat from the air to heat up water. After your comment, we brought in engineers who installed air-vent to generate more heat... More

I was taken aback by the chic decor of this historical hotel that looked run down from the outside. The moment I stepped into the lobby area, I was transported into a new dimension. I had my reservation before heading to the hotel due to some negative feedbacks, only to be clarified by the staff of circumstances other guests were... More

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Even though the weather in Timaru was uber cold, the Grosvenor Hotel kept us all snug and warm, despite the snow outside. They have really brought this old beauty into the 21st century without losing any of the charm that older buildings have to offer. Their staff are professional and extremely accommmodating, which is... More

Stayed Friday and Saturday night. Saturday night there was a live band down in the bar area. Being very serious, I could hear it as if the sterio was on in my room from 7pm - 1.30am! Not only that, the Bass of the music vibarated through the walls making the door jiggle and cups and saucers clatter every single... More

Very impressed with the hotel and its refurbishment. We stayed in room 101 and it was was very spacious and modern. For $220 we paid we got a 2 course meal and cooked breakfast, which was called the Queens package. The staff were friendly and helpful, being winter it was quiet but that is how we liked it. The evening... More

booked two rooms for one night, rooms good value for money paid $120. per room the rooms faced the back of the hotel, so was abit noisey when the staff emptied the bottles in the rubbish. Got up in the morning to cold showers in both rooms informed the young lady in the office she informed us that everybody was... More

Hi there, hot water issue is no more. Now, we have SEVEN gigantic commercial hot water cylinders for the Grosvenor. The amount of hot water available is enough for two hundred people and MORE! Humans are creatures of habit and in the past, our system was good enough for forty nine rooms BUT what happened is that customers tended to... More

stayed here one night en route between Dunedin and Christchurch. Hotel is tucked away down a small side street a few minutes walk from the town centre. If you're looking for an experience of a typical NZ pub/hotel then this is it - the rooms are smallish and basic and have interesting interior decor - the bathroom was a thin... More
