Cheaper than the Parador, but for good reasons: the hotel does certainly not deserve its 4 stars. The rooms are chastly furnished, at 35 degrees no air conditioning was working, the shower was either cold or boiling hot, the breakfast was simple, the entire atmosphere reflected the 50s during which it was apparently established within an old city palace. Room... more

This hotel is initiall great to look at with a very grand reception area and common area. The rooms however are dated and the service is poor! Having discovered that the two single beds in our room were fixed to the wall, a very unhelpful guy on reception informed us that the hotel has no double rooms, when you can... more

Nice hotel in a very good location. We got a room looking directly onto the Cathedral. The room was quite large and very clean, only fault is that the bath had some nasty cracks.. The hotel in general probably needs better maintenance, but on the whole it was very good value for money. more

This hotel is fraying at the edges, both literally and metaphorically. Clearly the management cannot afford the necessary maintenance at the prices charged but cannot justify charging more. The room and bathroom were large and the breakfast was excellent value. The public rooms are dark and uninviting and the bar/cafeteria was closed during our stay (two nights). The hotel car... more

I have nothing negative to point at this hotel that I would expect to be much more expensive than it was to me, considering the unbeatable location (just beside the cathedral) and that it is truly an old palace. It has large common rooms with antique looking decoration. more

Staying in this hotel was to be a treat but it was a disappointment. Although the location is wonderful the hotel a bit down-at -heel . There are huge pubic rooms, suits of armour etc but also frayed carpets. The room we were given was large but chipped and worn. More importantly, the toilet cistern was broken. We went back... more

Our experience at this hotel in June does not reflect the adverse reports in April. This hotel is an old palace situated in the square within the city walls next to the cathedral, a prime location and seemed to be the main hotel used by the the locals for smart weddings and other functions. The public rooms are magnificent and... more

Except for the location there is nothing much going on for this hotel. As the previous reviewers mentioned, parking is such a hassle. I don't beleive there is parking behind the hotel at all since we checked it out even though the front desk said it was full. They seem to be always full !! The front desk gentleman needs... more

To be honest, we were disappointed. I booked this "luxury" hotel as a surprise for my wife. The decor and situation in Avila is stunning, although car parking and quality of service were huge problems. The big problems started at reception - they weren't very nice to us. Even though they knew we had a baby, they put us in... more

I stayed in Avila in Feb 06 and this is a great location. In a 5 min walk you can get wine and cheese from the local wine store. Excellent staff and great food. It also inside the Walled City. Loved it.... more
