I wanted to love the Hmong Mountain Retreat, it was the place I was most looking forward to staying on our trip. But unfortunately it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The setting is stunning, it is very peaceful and beautiful, the style of the furnishings is eclectic and lovely with wonderful traditional art and fabrics etc. If you... More

We stayed in 6 on sixteen and Sapa rooms and were dissapointed the marketing did not match the reality but the Hmong mountain retreat it really did. Firstly no soundtrack- Yeah! Just the sounds of nature.. The bungalows are very basic but very comfortable- when warm- and the shared space is amazing and many enjoyable days and nights were had... More

Our last night in Vietnam (apart from the over night train back to Hanoi). Great way to spend a relaxing day lazing around reading books and admiring the view. We stayed in the H'mong house as travelling with our 11yr old son. As the sun went down and the cool night air set in, it was so nice to crawl... More

We had a little bit of bad luck in that we arrived in pouring rain and near zero temperatures (or it felt like it..) and we couldn't see far down the mountain due to cloud and fog. We spent a soggy but cosy evening gathered around the fire in the beautifully decked out common area in the 70 year old... More

My husband and I spent one glorious night at the retreat. Best night sleep I can remember in a long time, which is much needed when you take the rough and noisy train ride to Lao Cai. The bathrooms are shared which worried me a little, but they are beautifully designed with large smooth river stones to massage your feet... More

My friends and I stayed at the Hmong Mountain Retreat this past Christmas and had a wonderful time. Pete and his staff did their best to make sure our stay was outstanding. We stayed two nights in the bungalows and one in the Hmong house. The bungalows are neat - made in traditional mud and thatch construction and each has... More

We stayed just one night in the Hmong Mountain Retreat, and loved it. Situated some minutes drive outside of Sapa, the retreat is a quiet but still adventurous place to stay. From our bunglow we had a view into the valley and over the rice fields - which we could only enjoy a few minutes, because Sapa was wraped into... More

We spent 6 nights at Sapa Rooms, which we loved and learned of the Hmong Mountain Retreat. The combination of great art, stunning views, rustic yet comfortable cottages, and peace and quiet make for a very special experience. The bathrooms are not in the rooms, so you need a bit of a sense of adventure for getting around on path... More

The retreat is situated among the hills and rice paddies about a 15 minute drive outside of Sapa. We stayed in a small bungalow overlooking the entire valley, which is carved into thousands of stepped rice paddies. The bungalow was simple but clean, constructed in bamboo and thatch. The breakfast and dinner provided was excellent - fantastic fresh food from... More
