We always avoid anywhere which has been recommended by lonely planet. Especially so in Vietnam as the Vietnamese seem to either sell their business the minute the recommendation is published, or alternatively a 'copy' hotel or restaurant springs up around the corner. That hotel is just ridiculous! Maybe it has been good under another management, but the lonely planet shouldn't recommend it anymore! It's damp, cold, kind of dirty, lots of things broken (no tv, shower leaking) and it's staff is useless..really disappointed

I have had the worst experience in vietnam there! The price agreed was boosted of a couple dollars p/night on the check out and even with arguying i had to pay the price he wanted witch ended up costing me 10$ more for only three days stay! Ok, Sapa was freezing cold and very humid in general, but the room was like that as well. The heater is not included on the price (2$ more), but it was ok. I've travelled for a month from China to Vietnam and was happy to stay in Pinocchio hotel and lucky to meet here a man who can speak a perfect French, of course he speaks also fluently English. What keeps in my mind is his hospitality to invite us to have hotpot and drink some local wine "Tao Meo" on occasion... More

I really enjoyed my stay here, the staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke great english, i stayed in the dorm room which had magnificent views, theres wifi on every floor for free, and its in a superb location.

Ok, I imagine this place started off well, but like so many other places recommended by Lonely Planet, complacency creeps in. The rooms were damp and cold - fair enough, we're in the mountains, but the bedding was WET. Our bath leaked. They shut the doors after 10pm. The room is the worst with mouldy ceiling and walls (you can see the black color mould everywhere). The matress, sheets and pillow are wet. The room's has horrible mouldy smell. Also be careful about the passports. The owner refuse to give back our passports and asked us to pay full price when we wanted to change to another hotel!!!
