Wonderful front desk staff, gorgeous views of the harbour area and mountains. Haines is my favourite summer getaway and it always includes this hotel. I have stayed at many other properties and now that Norm's bed and breakfast is not running - this is the only place I truly enjoy. The hotel is old, and has neat claw-foot tubs. Anyone... More

We stayed lucky only one night in this hotel because it was the worst hotel on our trip thru Alaska. The hotel advertise with that they are a historical hotel but is that meaning that windows has to be broken. That from the ceiling plates almost all have to be broken and that the furniture looks if it can fall... More

I think history buffs would love this hotel. It was one of the more interesting places we stayed on our 6 week trip across Canada and Alaska. It was in the commander's quarters of Fort Seward. The room was basically a dorm room. We had an OK double bed, a very tiny bathroom and a view of the roof outside. We... More

This hotel is in the most lovely part of Haines. There is no other hotel that I've experienced in Alaska to match it for its historic setting. The staff were very friendly and I felt right at home there. When unfortunately I got injured in the town, they couldn't have been more helpful. To sum up I have very fond... More

This is a historic hotel in a beautiful setting. I spent one night there as I waited to board the Alaska ferry. The front office was very efficient and put me in a "pet friendly" room. The room was run down (torn curtains, torn mattress covers) and had a dank, musty smell. The charge for one night was over $100... More

My husband and I stayed for two nights in a handycapped room. Just hughes with three beds and we loved to stay outside on the porch. We stayed for another two nights upstairs in the commanders room with one queen bed. Here we looked out on the fields and the canal. It is a hundred year old place though, so... More

We stayed one night at the Halsingland. We hadn't stayed there for about 15 years. The last visit was disastrous (no hot water, musty room, no milk for breakfast). We thought we would give it a try since we heard it had new owners. The room was dark and plain. We couldn't get the heater to work so it was... More

I had a wonderful experience here. I ended up in town a day early and exhausted. They were happy to give me and additional day and they even gave me a free early check-in. The hotel is part of historic Ft. Seward so it's original and not just another typical hotel. The staff was always helpful and friendly and did... More

This place was an old dump... It had lots of potential but it was a complete waste of money. The bed in our room had been there since the 70's and the place was so musty we had to wash everything really good when we got home. This place wasn't cheap either so don't waste your money. We go to... More

I decided to stay in Haines 3 days after a summer of working in touristy, overcommercialized Ketchikan. I enjoyed Haines, in spite of lousy weather and many places being closed at the end of September. While this place has seen better days, I liked it because it has character and charm. I was disappointed that the well regarded restaurant had... More
