I wouldn't stay in San Jose or San Pedro again unless I had to - I find the capital and this suburb where Hotel Milvia is located to be unpleasant. However, since I had to be in San Pedro for a few days, I'm very glad I spent it at Hotel Milvia. This beautiful old mansion-turned-hotel is a quiet and... More

A stay at this hotel is is like visiting dear people you know and trust. As a single female travelor, I always felt cared for and safe. This place is charming with comfortable couches to sit in & read inside in public areas and deck chairs outside on the upper terrace, with grand views. It is superclean. Each day, I... More

First off, re: finding the place, simply tell the cab driver that it's in San Pedro Montes de Oca. Tell him, "De Supermercado 'Muñoz y Nanne' 100 este 100 norte 100 este" and he will be able to find it exactly. The closeness to this supermarket (actually a shopping complex) -- a quick walk -- is a plus. If this... More

Very nice place to stay. The manager and owner were helpful and friendly. The price was equivalent to a regular hotel. The Milvia had been the home of a prominent citizen of San Jose so it was roomy, well landscaped and nicely decorated with original paintings. Finding the hotel was an exercise; no one in the area knew where it... More

One of the nicest places I have ever stayed in. Pleasant staff, interesting art, feels like home. But San Jose can be chilly and the doors and windows of main areas are always open so bring a sweater.

We are familiar visitors to Costa Rica – this would be our 6th trip. We had a different challenge this time, though. My husband would be racing in the staged mountain bike race, La Ruta de los Conquistadores, which starts in Jaco and ends in Limon. Since I would be traveling with him, instead of staying at the designated hotels... More

A cute artistic bed and breakfast! But its located approx 20 min from downtown san jose. The area is good tho - with banks, restaurants and little shops. We found a cute little bakery - we ate lunch an Italian place that was approx a 10 min walk away. GREAT FOOD there. And we also had a good dinner at... More

We were rafting down the Pacuare River with Rios Tropicales and staying at the rainforest lodge the next night. Just needed an overnight (12 hrs total) stay in San Jose. When we travel, even if just an overnighter, I try to choose something special. The reviews I read described the owners as art lovers with paintings by local artists displayed... More

Best staff - I was there for an extended stay and the staff was very helpful - and personable. The space is fantastic and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation!

I'm a frequent guest of the Milvia. I love it, it's like an oasis in San José. The owners (Florencia and Steve) always make me feel SO welcome, that it really does feel like a 'home away from home' (sorry about the cliché, but it's true!) When I visit Costa Rica for business, its so peaceful, I actually enjoy getting... More
